Kiwami Tri Gear

I’ve heard good things about the Prima top/bottom but am looking for input from the ST cognoscenti. Does anyone have some feedback? Also, if a promo code is floating around that would be an added bonus given the prices.

Can’t comment on the Prima top/bottom, but did my first race in the Amphibian Prima and absolutely 100% loved it, perhaps even more than my DeSoto stuff.

I have the trienergy and its great. Awesome customer service too. They didnt have red in stock so they called to make sure I wanted to wait for it. Well I only have to wait 3 extra days, but they sent me the wrong color. I called and they sent out the right one the same day with next day air and a pre paid return package for the wrong one.

Very happy with Kiwami. Andre is the best! He really tries had to make sure you get what you need.

I got an Amphibian swim skin. Love it and it fits great, and works as advertised.

I got the Prima short and love the way it hugs my legs close to the knee and rides low on the waist. I did not like the prima top. The zipper is too short on my torso, and the material hugs my body too closely and doesnt seem to breathe as well as others (but thats just me).

I would give Kiwami and Andre and A+!

Good luck!

I have gone through 6 Kiwami suits in under two years (feel like I almost deserve a sponsorship).

They are without doubt the best trisuits on the market… PERIOD.

I have the Prima Top/Bottom: Used once so far (will do again at Shepparton 70.3). Raced in it when the temp was 30c (Celsius) and 85% humidity, tough day but the drying qualities and general comfort of the suit were top end!! My new favorite LD kit!

The Amphibian is a great suit for short course (and weather dependent) I might race a 70.3 on it. It is fast in the water quickly dries, comfortable and breathes well. I used one in 12 races over the season, gave it a wash and dry in the machine (I know you shouldn’t do it, but it tightens the lycra up) felt good as new, racing this weekends duathlon in my old suit as it feels just like the new one I got. It is probably the only suit that has one a race in ever distance from Sprint to Ironman and been used as a swimskin by people like Terenzo, Faris and Rachel Joyce and Kona.

Have also raced in the Konami. Again great fabric (which is a hallmark of these three suits) however I only used it once (this is PERSONAL PREFERENCE) as I found the legs a little to long (I like shorter shorts) and preferred a two-piece suit.

The people at Kiwami have been great, they hooked me up with a custom suit which Filip Osplay wears, had it in my hands from canda to australia within the week. That is why I am so supportive of the brand, they have great customer service, are clearly very passionate about their brand/triathlon and support grassroots triathlon.

I am not sure about the rest of you, but there are two bits of equipment that I am anal about, for most I suppose it i the bike. For me it is racing suits and having perfectly clean lenses on my sunglasses.

I have used the matty reed suit and also have the 2 piece prima kit and am racing IMC Sunday with it. It is nothing short of amazing!

The pad is perfect density for biking and don’t notice on run, the top is tight but doesn’t put pressure on tummy, top doesnt ride up with on bike, unlike some the pockets are very useful, the waist of the shorts isn’t too high.

The material is one of the best things about it, top notch! They have more colors than are on the site so be sure to ask, Andre is great to work with.

You won’t be disappointed!

I’ve raced in the konami and amphibian.

Happy with both. Both of them are very comfortable. I was impressed by how fast the amphibian was in the water!

I used the Tempo top in a recent race and was very happy with how it swam. Looks to be my next no-wetsuit swim top.

Does anyone know if the cut/style of the Prima short are the same as the Twinki?

I can’t say enough good things about Kiwami products and their customer service (Andre). I even got an email from him after winning my age group at AG Nationals this past weekend (wearing the Kiwami Amphibian, of course). I haven’t tried the two piece, but the material is the same as the amphibian and is extremely light and quick drying. Awesome products.

Does anyone know if the cut/style of the Prima short are the same as the Twinki?

The cut of the Prima is very similar, but there is a bit more compression compared to the Twinki. Also, the material in the prima is the same as the one piece Amphibian, which is thinner and lighter than the Twinki. The Prima short comes in many colors, including some not listed on the website, such as red/white, black/red/white, black/white and green/white. Remember that we also do custom imprinting with quantities as small as one. We want you completely satisfied, and it is so nice to hear such great comments by our customers.

I’ve raced the Konami (edit) in sprints and 70.3’s this year. I’m doing my first full in a month, and the suit is great. The padding is small, but the suit is tight so it’s way more comfortable than any bike shorts.

I hand wash my suit and hang it to dry. It’s held up better than any other gear I’ve had.

I have heard a lot of good things. I presently race in Skinfit apparel. How does Kiwami compare?

I have been told the suit has no pockets. Are you going to be carrying any nutrition with you?

Konami tri suit - sorry, my mind was in other places. I’ll keep a gel flask in the back (I lose it when I mount it on the bike) and my inhaler. My nutrition is almost all liquid/gels.

the kiwami suits look very nice but im concerned about how the black fabric performs in the heat. the konami looks really bad imo and has doesnt have a back zip.

The black isn’t an issue at all. I raced a hot/humid 70.3 and had no issues. Honestly, it’s lighter than anything else I’ve had and that was a bigger difference.

Get the amphibian if you want the back zip. Not sure why you are complaining that their key long course suit has a front zip. Even in sprints, I unzip or go “topless”

too bad the amphibian isnt white/black with coldblack. stylish, cool, and doesnt get dirty looking.

I will likely use the Amphibian for the swim only.

Hi all,

Here is Olivier from Kiwami Triathlon in Canada.
Thanks for all the comments about our gear, it is always appreciated. Some of you have worked with Andre, and others with myself, I will try to give the best answers I can.

Gary’s comments are exact about the Twinki/Prima short comparison.

Barry, you mention that there are no pockets, it all depends on the trisuit you pick. We have 6 different models. Originally, they all have been designed for different purposes, but some successful models have been transferred from one type of racing to an other

The Amphibian was created for the short course people. It is a “minimalist” suit, very much like a racing flat in the shoe world. The fabric is thin (not lycra  ), light, there is no chamois and no pockets. Entirely ITU approved.
Aside of that suit, one can choose

  • the Trinamik (entry level, not “as tight” fit, chamois, no pocket, Invista lycra)
  • the Trinergy, a more fitted suit (pocket “zippable” so no drag, chamois, Invista lycra)
  • the KaimanXClub, for the long course athletes, with wider chamois, 4 pockets, front zipper, breathable mesh, Invista lycra
Over the years, more and more long distance athletes have turned their eyes towards the Amphibian because of the incredible feel of the fabric and the fit.

We started to see Amphibian (with no chamois and no pockets) on long course and IM triathlons.

At the same time, White became a very popular choice as well. So Kiwami developed the Konami.
The marriage of the KaimanXClub and the Amphibian : thin fabric, 6 pockets, white and cold black sections, chamois.

Shortly after, Kiwami developed the top-short equivalent to the Konami: we called it Prima Top and Shorts.

Voila, in a few words … (sorry for the mistakes as my first language is french).

Are you a “trisuit” person or a “top-short” person, that is your first question ?

Myself, I’m a trisuit guy, I would wear the Amphibian for the swim, and keep on racing with the Konami

Thanks for reading.

PS: I still have some white Amphibians :)))
