Kittens and spraying for bugs

Here is the deal, my house has recently been taken under siege by all sorts of bugs, mainly ants and some spiders, my house isn’t dirty, so I’m pretty sure this is a seasonal thing. Simple fix, call Orkin and get it sprayed, end of story.

Here is the catch, my family recently got bigger as I adopted two kittens, one is 4 months old, the other is three months old. I’m very worried that getting the house sprayed could hurt the cats. Does anybody have experience with this? or has anybody found a fix for a similar problem? thanks.

Be sure to tell your pest control company that you have cats. Most companies can use something that is safe for pets to be around as soon as it has dried, as long as they know about the animals. You will certainly want to have the kittens out of the house for the day. Cats are extremely sensitive to many commonly used pest control substances, and you may need to call around to find a pet-friendly business.

I belive we are all still wiating for pictures of the kittens…

Our kitty is one year old and she is still very, very sensitive to anything remotely toxic that we do in our house. She’s normally a real animated kitty and she goes all lethargic and unhappy-looking on us. This is good in a way, because it’s finally forcing our landlady to explore less-toxic alternatives.

Cats are like canaries in the coal mine. Whatever they react to, is also affecting you toxically, just at a lower magnitude.

Just one observation, any time we call up a company asking about their methodology, they’ll just tell you what you want to hear: “Our method is fine for pets” and “We meet all government standards” or whatever. My method is to research everything as independently as possible before believing a given company’s claims.

p.s. Tell us what you come up with…

I will upload pics of the kitties soon, tomorrow or the next day. I agree, Im really worried about what chemicals are used because I really care about the kittens. Since they seem to trust me, I absolutely need to do it right, I couldn’t live with myself if I harmed them.
