Kinda selfish post

I know this may sound kinda selfish, it’s all about me, etc. But after all this crazy hard training, I am so happy to have recieved this e-mail. Even though I already knew I was going to qualify.

Dear XTERRA Competitor:

Congratulations! It¡¯s my pleasure to invite you to compete in the 7th annual XTERRA USA National Championship race in Lake Tahoe on September 30, 2007.

As a leading regional points scorer, you have earned a slot at this prestigious event, where the title of National Champion in your age group will be up for grabs. The field is limited to those racers, like yourself, who have qualified in the eight XTERRA regions throughout the country.

Not only will every multisport and tri magazine be there to cover the event, but a full one hour television show will be taped as well.

Combine a real chance for a National Championship with an epic course on the Tahoe Rim and Flume trails plus television coverage and a couple of wonderful parties and dinners, and you have a weekend you can¡¯t miss.

To accept or decline this invitation, please contact Ann Mickey at TEAM Unlimited by email at ann@xterraplanet.com, or call toll-free 877-751-8880 no later than September 7, 2007. You will also need to register online http://www.xterraplanet.com/races/race_schedule.cfm.
If you have any problems or questions about registration please contact Ann.

We need to hear from you by the deadline listed above. If you decline the invitation, we will roll your slot to the next, most qualified athlete. If we don¡¯t hear from you by the above deadline we will assume you are not competing and roll your slot.

Remember only invited athletes can compete in the Championship race. If you have a friend who wants to race, we have XTERRA Nevada a non-qualifiers event on Saturday this is open to everyone.

Aloha,

Dave Nicholas
Managing Director, XTERRA

Anybody else planning to join me for the chilliest swim, most epic mountain bike, and the most fun you’ll ever have running 10k triathlon ever!!!

You suck, aaahhh, I mean CONGRATULATIONS.

My age-group awards invitations up to 9th. Guess where I placed. 10th. Maybe I’ll get a roll-down.

Anyways, Sincere Congratulations on making Nationals!

Chris

It’s okay, h2ofun…er, I mean Xterraguy…congratulations.

Seriously.

Congratulations! Is the race by invite only?

Nice work. Congrats!

only invited athletes can compete in the Championship race.

.

That’s cool. Congratulations!

So whats to be expected in Tahoe at Xterra? Does a Florida flatlander like me stand a chance or will it be like breathing though a straw? I get there less than a day before the race. I have heard this is a good strategy.

If it were h2ofun he wouldn’t have admitted it straight out. It would have been something like "I got this email, do you think they are serious about the deadline to respond? I mean ,they underlined it and everything. "

Then there would be a seemingly endless series of threads about the Chanpionship and the various aspects of life related thereto (which is everything).

This way is much better.

Congrats on qualifying!

My wife, my brother and myself are all going out to compete. My brother just scored his qualification at Onteora this past weekend (after he’d already bought plane tix). I’ve raced both the Nevada race (no need to qualify, shorter swim, shorter run) and the Nationals race. Oddly, I only really feel the altitude during the swim. It doesn’t phase me much on the bike even with all the climbing, although I’m sure it’s different for everyone.

It’s a sweet course, and a good value when you consider the dinner the night before, BBQ after the race and the party Sunday night.

LMAO!!!

Classic.

You wont feel like you’re breathing through a straw, you’ll just go anaerobic a tad quicker… I live exactly 10’ above sea level and I raced Tahoe in 2003, got there Wednesday before the race and felt normal on race-day even though people said you need to be there either 3 weeks ahead or the day before.

I pre-rode on the Thursday and felt fine too, with the only minor symptom of altitude being a little cough reflex when i breathed all the way in post-workout (like you’ve been in the water too long…) weird. I like the Xterra qualifying because you dont have to be the fastest, you just need some speed and you need to be xterra-loyal. As long as you get out & race a bunch of points series races & you’ll most likely make it into nationals.
It is absolutely an awesome race & venue.

Thanks Dong. Good stuff.

I went skiing in Park City a few years back with my wifes family and decided to do a midnight 5k run on Dec. 31st. It wasn’t pretty. Probably about a minute a mile slow, but it was in the ice too. Probably the hardest 5k I have ever done. Just couldn’t get the breathing normal.

And you know what else makes sense about Xterra? That you don’t have to wait around for hours after a race to find out if you qualify for Nationals (70.3 Worlds, I’m looking at you!). You go home and wait by your computer and one day you get an email. No dashing for a cash machine after a half ironman. Why on earth can’t the other race series handle this stuff online and save everyone time?
