Kienle won Kona on 175mm cranks!

He won Kona on 175mm cranks! I’m so excited, because I stuck with 175mm and now the trend will start to swing back. Glad I didn’t spend the money on shorter cranks.

Stadler also set the record on 175’s. Are you the same size as them?

so thats what i have been doing wrong all this time! damn my 170 little things! If i get 190mm cranks does that mean i can go like cancellara?

Crank size is very individual, Crowie has won on 165mm but then again he he 5’7" Kinele is a monster

Well in 1994, Indurain held the World Hour Record on 190 mm cranks and Boardman broke it on 170’s…by the way, they both when faster than “record holder Jens” for what it is worth. At the time, if I recall, Indurain was using 180mm in his TdF win but “upgraded” to 190’s for the hour attempt.

here i was thinking 190 was a definite piss-take , yet 190’s have been done. The things we learn on the 'twitch

I’ve been on 165mm on my P3 for a few years now, and I don’t think there’s a huge advantage to them, other than being able to open up the hip angle. I think 175’s may be “best” for most people if they can get into their desired TT position. Going up hills is certainly better with longer cranks. Those who have ridden 165-175 know what I’m talking about. If I bought a new TT bike, I’d likely go 170 or 172.5 (I’m 5’9 30" inseam, and ride 170s on my road bike.)

Kienle is 5’8"

I make the same power on 172.5 as I do on 175, but I’ve never had hip angle troubles in general. I can’t “notice” the difference either.

But oddly I can notice that 170 feels different, but I don’t know if I produce the same power on those or not, never tried.

No way Kienle is 5’8", According to this ST article below he is 5’11’…seemed more like 5’10" when I have been talking with him.

About half the data I see for Craig says he is 5’ 11" and the other half shows he is 5’9". I don’t see 5’7" quoted anywhere. Also IIRC he used 167.5s rather than 165s.

Hugh

I have a pic with him he is no more than 5’7", met him at his book signing. Very small guy, will post

Respectfully, I think you are a bit off on Crowie’s height. I believe he is AT LEAST 5’-9"

We are both standing straight I think . . . he is bit leaner than me!

Looks like you are about equal height.

Umm no, both are listed as 5’11 Check their Wiki pages, as well as his own page http://www.craigalexander.net/about/
I forget what size Crowie rides, but the Kienle article says he’s on a 56cm

Do you wear your tri-kit everywhere, or just when you meet pros?

What shoe size was he wearing? You should start wearing that shoe size also.

I think it must be photoshop. Very-well done though.
