Kickr videos

I was curious to what everyone is using, likes and dislikes of 3rd party video/workouts. Any triathlon courses or mostly road race courses.

I’m on a Computrainer rather than a Kickr but these would still work with the Kickr:

When I want to train: Sufferfest with matching .erg file in PerfPro Studio. When I just want to “ride”: VeloReality - hands down some of the best quality videos on the market today. I’ll probably never get to ride in Europe but with these videos I can at least pretend to.

VeloReality looks amazing. Had no idea that existed. Will have to buy a few of those videos. Certainly cheaper than Ergvideos which are unfortunately overpriced.

Be aware that VeloReality rides are slope mode not erg mode so they work more like Racermate’s Real Course Videos rather than ErgVideos. I personally don’t have a problem with that – as I stated above – I use these videos for my indoor rides when I want to “just ride”. I only just discovered the videos for myself this past spring but I’ve quickly become a fan.

We are finishing Racing/riding together over the Internet. Will come out in November. After that we are toying with the idea of bringing workouts to our videos. We can do it 2 ways:

  1. Just attach any workout file to video, it will put trainer in ERGO mode. As for your visual speed it will be calculated based on your wattage, weight and current slope

  2. We will create virtual cyclist that has the same weight as you and have him ride in front of you while executing a workout. Your task will be to follow that cyclist. Something I think that resembles real life workouts way more than Erg mode. If you follow the cyclist and no not overshoot/fall back then your wattage will correspond to what workout says.

What do you think? 1) or 2) ?

Option 1 seems the better plan from a purely “do a prescribed workout” standpoint. But option 2 could be a fun way to go as well. I always find that I can do a little bit more when I’m chasing another rider rather than just trying to keep my watts in a specific zone.

Option 2

I always work harder when chasing someone…

Their videos are awesome and on a 150 inch screen in 720/1080p it’s as close to “reality” as you can get indoors. I have several of their videos. The interface software has been updated a few times over the last year and it also creates tcx files if you load stuff on Strava. Smooth erg mode.

Which videos are you talking about.

Does the VeloReality trainer software communicate with the Computrainer via USB and the Wahoo Kickr via ANT+? I have both and very interested in getting to know more about the software and videos.

The answer is yes to both. Just make sure that Computrainer has firmware version 43.45 or higher. Since the software and couple of demo videos are free download those and see if it works for you. Downloading and reading user guide will help as well.

He is talking about videos from Veloreality

Pretty much all of them are HD. I like the two Belgium courses the most. The Belgium Flatlander 1 I think is my favorite. 40k with some ups and downs. The ones in France are pretty much uphill the whole way but have great views.

re: the veloreality videos -
i have only used cycleops virtual until now. i have definitely been more motivated to train with the videos and the stats. you asked about erg vs. pacer for your videos. I have never used erg - but i do love the idea of pacers. cycleops allows you to pick a previous ride and pace from that - not perfect but still very motivating. does velo reality only do their own videos or do they support any 3rd party video content. i have also found it very motivating to train on roads i know, though i bet letting you have control means your elevation profiles are very accurate. i plan on checking out the veloreality videos soon - happy to give feedback if desired. sincerely, rick

Thanks, feedback will be much appreciated. I also sent you private message with contact details.

Does your software support multirider, like Computrainer’s Real Course?

Coming in about a month in more exciting way that they have.

Wait , does this mean that the veloreality video will NOT control your Kickr? Meaning, the video might ask for 250 watts on a climb, but it won’t tell your Kickr to give you a 250watt load, and instead you have to treat it like a regular fluid trainer instead? (No erg mode?!)

The software does control KICKR. It has normal workout GUI where you create/select your workout and it will tell KICKR what power to maintain. On video it works in so called “slope mode”. If video had 12% road grade at this particular place it will tell the KICKR to simulate that slope and you will feel that you’re going up 12% grade.

What is coming soon is workouts over the video part. You will have to follow avatar displayed on road over the video. The avatar will be simulating cyclist executing workout of your choice. Your task will be to follow that avatar. If you keep up with that virtual cyclist your wattage will be the same as what workout says.

Curious if anyone has used FULGAZ online simulator?
