Key workouts for pros

I read Hamish Carter’s biography on the weekend and he details quite a bit of his training.

What Hamish Carter did in the lead up to Athens Olympics as his key workout around 2 weeks or so out was:

Hard swim
2 hour hilly bike incl 6x hill repeats up a hill more brutal than that on the athens course, then
Run 8x1000 with 60s rest. Think he held around 2.52 or so? He had a couple of training hacks pace him

Another workout he did after that but before olympics was a run of 200m in 32-34seconds, 200m float in 40 or so seconds, repeat 5 times, jog 5 minutes, then repeat it all over again once more

He also used long, easy training to hold his form at various times.

Shame on you. Describe the cycling and running but then all you say is “hard swim”

Where did you read the biography? Is this online or a book?

Thanks,
Dan

it is a book…‘get carter’.

he doesn’t describe the swim at all in his bio.

he did swim with swimmers to get faster though. it also seems that when his running was on form that his swim was affected by it…you’ll be pleased to know that tigerchik!

i’d be willing to bet that his biggest key workout is working out daily over a period of many years.

he has rest days from what i can gather
.

Here are a couple hard IM days.

day 1
5,000 long course meter workout (4x1000 tempo)
4.5 hour tempo ride
Brick Run of 60 minutes with 5x1mile repeats on the track at 5:25-5:30 pace

day 2
2.5 hour run steady
5,000 long course meters workout (20x200 hammered by a collegiate swimmer)
3:15:00 ride steady

i agree with you, there is no such thing as key workouts… they are all very important and it s a daily thing…

there is session you can mention to impress people but these arent the one that make you a great athlete… it s the very simple daily grind and the 50 minutes easy run is as important as the 8X1000 miles on the track…

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of “Get Carter”? I tried searching the internet, but only found news of its release.
