Key West Florida swimming

Anyone know of pools to swim in and or times Thanks
.

When we were there in January my wife swam at the pool at the community college (northern corner of Stock Island). They had good lap swim times and a lifeguard that paid attention to getting swimmers in the right lanes. http://www.fkcc.edu/academics/recreation.da / http://www.boneislandswimclub.com/Home.shtml

There were also hours at the public pool down by the tip of the island, but we didn’t go there.http://www.keywestcity.com/department/division.php?structureid=67

We also swam open water off the pier at Higgs Beach and off the beach at Smathers Beach.

The community college is the way to go for sure if you want a pool. Just don’t be an idiot like I did and try to do your tempo run near Southernmost Point unless you’re training for steeplechase. Too many unleashed children

Especially if you’re not very good at steeplechase. Couple years ago on vacation I had my eyes on an off leash dog coming my way, missed the curb, and went down in a heap right in front of a couple of Japanese tourists. Not cool.

Thanks everyone, leaving tomorrow…just might retry the steeplechase…I did run it in college.

Lived there for 3 yrs. FKCC is your best bet. 3-5 pm can get busy due to swim teams, other than that you’ll get a lane to yourself. Locker room is in the next bldg. Leave you stuff on the bleachers, it’s safe.

Good open water swims at Ft. Zachary beach, follow the buoys and stay near them. Tourists on rental jet skis is scary.

The college is closed next week ouch any other ideas? Thanks

If you can get on the Trumbo Point Navy Base there’s a pool there. 1-2 lanes, odd length, not heated & it can get cold in the Keys. Mostly used as a kids/family pool. But the lifeguards (same ones at the collage) do a great job at keeping the non-swimmers out of the lanes.

Never needed to try the city pool mention above.
