Anyone know of a kentucky half I.M. distance race. I would like to do one near my dad’s place but I cant find anything too great in the area on calendars or searching on google. Any help would be appreciated.
don’t know about kentucky but there is one in TN. Sunday, September 25, 2005 ::: Lenoir City, Tennessee: Atomic Man Triathlon Swim 1.2 miles, Bike 56 miles, Run 13.1 miles email: KevinMahan@chartertn.net
i don’t know anything about the race but am thinking of doing it as a prep to IMFL.
anybody know about it?
Buckeye Challenge (hfpracing.com) is just north of Cincinnati on August 21. It’s not in Kentucky, but depending on where you are in KY, it may not be too far. It was a pretty good race last year, and HFP does a pretty good job of putting on races in general.
Thanks dbh1, do you know anything about the Headfirst Performance Half-Iron Triathlon . Its website doesnt look the greatest so i am not sure if it is a quality half I.M. or not.
This past May was the first 1/2 Ironman race done by Headfirstperformance. It was announced pretty late. Todd Heady is the race director/organizer for a majority of the hometown triathlons in Kentucky. Todd is actually a Mexico Double Ironman Champion. His races are always good races, but not anything spectaclular. He is a great guy and without him Kentucky would only have 4-5 sprint races. Hopefully he will do the 1/2 ironman again next year. If so I will hopefully be ready for it. Any race near Shelbyville is usually his and I think he also helps with the duathlon in Louisville in the Fall. I am hopefully doing the triforsight in Lexington on Sept. 18th. Check out trifind.com kentucky.

I’ve done Atomicman a couple of times. Hills, hills and more hills-even on the swim! Just kidding. This is right next to Oak Ridge and all the nuclear stuff. The bike & run are two loopers. It is a decent race and seemingly getting better.
The last 1/2 mile of the race has been referred to as death march. You think you are done, make a sharp curve and up up up. People mostly walk this one.
