More than one out of every five dollars of the $125 million Massachusetts is receiving from a federal spending bill is going to help preserve the legacy of the Kennedys.
The bill includes $5.8 million for a new Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate to be located near the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum. The JFK Museum will get $22 million for upgrades. Nothing like some pork in your clam chowder.
The bill also includes: $5 million for a visitor pavilion for the Boston Harbor Islands National Park; $3 million to help preserve New England fisheries; $1.7 million for land acquisition at Cape Cod National Seashore; and $1.4 million for energy-efficient insulation development.
Dozens of smaller school, transit and environmental projects will also receive funding.
ummmm giving money to things named after a Kennedy is a wee bit different than giving money to a Kennedy. JFK Airport is getting stimulus dollars too, I bet they are rubbing their hands in the compound after hearing that news.

Yeah because it is so important to the national well being that this family get government money to keep it’s collective ego at an insane level.
I think some numbers are off. I am betting that MA is getting more than $125M from either the Stimulus Bill (your headline) or the federal budget bill (your text).

No, weak is leaving the car that you just drove off a bridge with a young woman in it to drown why you run to your hotel room to hide like nothing ever happened. Now that is weak! And, its even weaker NOT to MAN up to it…But then again I wouldnt expect a lefty to own up to anything!
Hot topic on the local talk radio station this morning with one caller bringing up two very good points - 1.) Institutes/Libraries of this type are typically funded by foundation grants and corporate donations rather than taxpayers dollars, and 2.) it’s not like the Kennedy family can’t afford to fund a few of these things themselves. The visitors center is going to be located appropriately enough on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the site of the former elevated expressway that cut through the city.
Given the economic climate right now, this is money that could have been better spent/earmarked. For example, the city of Worcester recently laid off an entire class of new police officers the day after they graduated from the academy due to budget cuts. Other cities and towns across the state are also letting go police, fire and school employees. Not a good message to send to those folks right now where funds that could be used to help them are being appropriated to continue to honor the legacy of one family.
