Keep the light on for me (going to New Orleans)

Just got the call from FEMA. I’m being deployed to the disaster area for a month or so. I “volunteered” for the FEMA interagency disaster recovery force, and imagine I’ll be rebuilding IT neworks while I’m there, but am not sure.

Will be there a minimum of 30 days. Told them I needed to be back by mid-November - IMUSA next year!

Don’t guess I’ll be doing much swim/bike/running for a spell.

Good luck My Friend. You’re fighting the good fight.

deploying in the US? No way! Very cool and thank you!!

As a New Orleans native, resident of Metairie, and a refugee currently displaced to Houston, I am grateful for your efforts and sacrifice. I had to withdraw from IMFL, but am planning on a replacement IM next year. Best of luck to you there. I am headed back to NO for another salvage expedition this weekend. PM me if you want a local contact.

The Mississippi River levee on theeast bank is good for running and biking. It has an 8 foot wide paved asphalt surface. Lots of related activity up there on the levee (running and biking). It is just over 20 miles long making for a good 40 mile round trip.

Tempting, but I don’t have a clue about my living arrangements and think they’ll kinda frown on me showing up at the airport with a bike case… But I will take my running shoes for sure.

Good luck and thank you for your help.

Best of luck to you! My sister is a federal law enforcement officer temporarily with FEMA. She now hands out paperwork to people who have lost almost everything. With the clueless coworkers, insane amounts of paperwork, and general frustration of a thick rulebook that seems to screw the people who need aid most, I think she’d almost rather go back to UN duty at this point.

She is however learning a lot about the informal economy in Mississippi and just how many different things you can swap for a singlewide. (the problem being that they just swap and move the homes, and no one ever thought to transfer legal title along with)
