Been in Almaty for nearly a week. Not nearly as 3rd world as I was expecting. Lets of money here as well, I’m seeing a lot of Beemer’s, Benz’s, Porsche’s. I haven’t seen a Rolls, Bently or Supercar though. Alcohol is really cheap. Today is a Almaty City Day, so I’m looking forward to checking out the festivities. There are some really beautiful womens. If I ran a modeling agency I would be opening an office here.
I got some funny looks when I’ve gone out running. Big pain in the butt to carry my passport when I run.
Kind of bummed I don’t get to see Astana, everyone says it’s really cool.

Astana is not reaaly cool, just cool because it is new and a lot of movie has been invested in the infastructure, especially government buildings. The old Astana still remains very Soviet in comparison to the new parts of the city. Yes, the women are VERY beautiful but once they hit forty or so, they look like a dump truck filled with vodka ran over them twice. Some of the men are attractive but not as attractive as the women. Have you been up to Shymbalak yet? The views are beautiful and worth checking out. I too, noticed the high number of Mercedes but had to remember they are the car of oil-wealthy Asian nations.
yes, the new Astana is quite impressive and I did run there on pancake flat and arrow straight and wide avenues… saw some biking guys too, but need to be accompanied by a car in the back so that they don’t run you over. people are friendly too
