"SHE’S been tracking her idol for years, winning world titles and living up to the high expectations placed on her shoulders. Sunday night, swimming at the TYR Meet of Champions in Mission Viejo, Calif., Kate Ziegler passed Janet Evans on the long-course scene. Contesting the 1500 freestyle, Ziegler lopped an unheard of nine-plus seconds from Evans’ 1988 standard of 15:52.10.

Already the winner of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyles at the meet, Ziegler saved her best for last and went 15:42.54, a time that is almost unfathomable."

Can you say holy shit.

Can you say holy shit.

holy shit.

She was in a slouch for a while (trying to get sponsors/graduating), I’m glad she’s back to full form.

Wow…it seemed like it was inevitable, but it’s great that she finally did it!

That day has finally come. Wow!

Splits are up on the Swimming World Web Site. The consistency is amazing.

holy shit she would almost lap me.

.

MY GOD - do people actually swim that fast? She would lap me EVERY 100m. That’s insane.

Wow. How could she miss the WR by <1s at worlds, then smash it by almost 10s here? That’s incredible.

It was apparently a surprise to her as well. Reports are that she did an altitude camp for a while, got back to sea level last week, and saw more of an early benefit from it than they had expected… Also that she wasn’t feeling well at the start of the meet, and that’s why she ‘only’ went an 8:24 on Thursday, but took the 1500M out in an 8:22.

She looked incredible - so strong, and no competition. How great for her to break such an old record! I hope she just keeps going faster through Beijing.

Thanks for posting the video link. Very cool to see her going SO incredibly fast!! I couldn’t help but notice that this is the first time I’ve ever seen her race in a Fastskin with legs; she usually just uses a regular Speedo. I wonder how much of a difference that really makes? Clearly not 10 seconds, that’s for sure!

Very cool video. It looked like the next fastest individual was over a lap down, if I saw that right, and a 16:50 ish 1500 is pretty quick for a female. Lapping someone going that fast is pretty incredible.

Bout time huh-Evans is the most dominate female swimmer if not male and female swimmer in history (Give Phelps 5 years and he will have that honor). It is nice to see her record go down with authority, no tenths of sec garbage, but an honest to goodness beating. I am sure Kate has lot more in her and I wonder if this will bring in a new era in women D swimming much like Glenn Houseman and Kieren Perkins did for Mens D swimming finally making it routine to break 15 min. Maybe we will see wome flirting with the 15:30 threshold in the near future? The 15:40 mark will go down soon if this was an “off” meet for Kate.

What an awesome swim by Kate just freekin awesome!! Thanks for posting this!

Almost?

Just once?

Not sure how fast you are but based on her time you would have to be at the 1400 mark before 15:42 to keep from being lapped which works out to 1:07.28 avg/100. I can tell you that there is no way i could hold that pace in the shape I am in today, no way at all. 1:07.28 converts to 58.80’s in short course yards and I am lucky to hold 1:05’s these days which is about 1:15’s meters which would mean she laps me almost 3 times. She was cookin flat out haulin ass that is for sure.

I guess I was thinking of open water. In the pool she would lap me many times. Basically she swims about 60% faster than me.

holy shit is right. Amazing. I just watched the video…she looks so strong. And that is not known as a particularly fast pool, nor did she have anyone pushing her.

What is really stunning is her 800 **split **was 2 sec FASTER than her 800 winning time earlier in the meet. And she brought it home with a 1:01 last 100…clearly she is super fit right now. This was one for the ages.

Just watched also- I am even more impressed that was crazy. If did not no know better it looked like an average USS meet. I really makes me wonder what she is capable of in abig meet. No one at all pushing her, not big meet hype and rush, not a fast pool and not fully rested from what I hear. Crazy fast!

LMAO!! In open water. What on like a 1.2 mile course? I’m in your boat as well.
