Karl Rove & Sandy Berger

With all the heated passion on the Karl Rove issue I got to thinking about another serious National Security breach made by Sandy Berger, stuffing classified documents in his socks from the National Archives. Karl Rove has been blasted from both the main stream media and the hard core left in this country yet I do not seem to recall their same standard when it came to Berger. Sure he pleaded guilty and claims he “showed very poor judgement” but nobody assassinated his character and made personal attacks like they have on Rove. So what say ye? Rove has not even been charged with anything yet many think he should hang now. Is that fair?

Didn’t Mr. Berger’s crime happen 2 years after he left his job?

He left his job in Jan '01. The incident at the national archives happened in '03.

Berger left the Kerry campaign when the story broke (don’t remember if it was just before or after), and long before he was charged with a crime.

Rove still has his job… and access to classified information.

The president said he would fire the leaker and put him in jail.
This does not apply to Sandy Berger.

Didn’t Mr. Berger’s crime happen 2 years after he left his job? He left his job in Jan '01. The incident at the national archives happened in '03.

Yes you are correct on the time frame of Mr Berger’s crime. Does it really matter though? I mean OK, so he was not in his job at the time he committed the offense? He was also working for Kerry at the time. He basically got a slap on the wrist.

Dear Senator,
I support the Administration’s right to destroy its critics by betraying intelligence agents and leaking classified national security information. Please continue to oppose the Senate Democrats’ attempts to revoke the security clearances of those who leak classified material.
Thank you,

  • I mean OK, so he was not in his job at the time he committed the offense*

That’s the point -

Berger had limited access to classifed information - he was in the national archives (a repository for HISTORICAL information).

Rove still has his job and still has access to CURRENT information.

Berger’s actions were “good” actions, even though they were illegal, since they were done to protect the good name of the Clinton administration.

Rove’s actions were “bad” actions, even though they were legal, since they were done to get accurate information out that would undermine a highly deceptive critic of a Republican president.

I don’t understand why you don’t get this. It is not complicated.

Didn’t Mr. Berger’s crime happen 2 years after he left his job?

If I remember right, the non-disclosure form I/you sign when given a clearance and/or access to classified inforation states there is no statue of limitations on leaking, mis-handling, or disclosing classified information.

Rove’s involvement and weather he actaully leaked anything classified is becoming more and more questionable as more facts are found out.

Round-boy AKA Berger-minster destroyed documents and stuffed classified material into his socks and tried to sneak them out of a secure area. Can you honestly tell me that both incidents are equal?

“as more facts are found out.”

Who needs facts when HITLERBUSH lied and people died? Facts are so Watergate.

Rove’s actions were “bad” actions, even though they were legal, since they were done to get accurate information out that would undermine a highly deceptive critic of a Republican president.

you ability to parrot the rnc talking points is becoming legendary…

I invite everyone to read all the Sander Berger threads and have the courage to admit that this has nothing to do with who did what but who was on whos team.

Lots of Berger defenders are now security fantics.

It’s all too funny.

sure it has something to do with it. the only thing i dispute is that the character assassination part re: rove has much to do with the plame stuff. frankly, i dispute whether he has any character to assassinate.

Like I said before “As long as we destroy our enemy fairness and facts don’t matter.”
.

tell you what tibbs, look up the article in atlantic monthly on karl rove from maybe a year ago. read that, then get back to me, because you will have a much better understanding of why rove deserves any- and everything he gets.

No I don’t think I will. I understand that Rove is the worse person you have ever heard of. I understand he raped your mom. I get it.

What you and all the lefties and righties on this site are proving is none of y’all are interested in fairness or results. You have your emotion-based ideals and have joined those up with a philosophy. Y’alls only interest in keeping y’alls philosophy legitimate in y’alls mind
.

nobody assassinated his character and made personal attacks like they have on Rove.

I don’t know about character assasination and personal attacks, but I was just as critical of Berger as I am of Rove. They should both pay a much greater price for their transgressions.

They won’t, though, and for exactly the same reason: their partisian supporters (that’s you, in Rove’s case. In case you’re wondering.) will defend them to the last, no matter the seriousness of their offense. The right slammed Berger just as hard as the left is slamming Rove now, and don’t kid yourself otherwise. But they’ll both survive with careers and reputations intact. They’ll both still get invited to the best parties. Neither one will have to slink away to find a rock to hide under in shame, which is what they should both have to do.

Oh hi there armytriguy, you a-political being of objectivity, so completely devoid of partisan motivations you can feel secure in lobbing threats of violence and engaging in “holier than thou” hectoring. How are you doing today?

Does it make you feel warm and fuzzy to bathe yourself in moral equivocation, shouting eternally to mommy that Johnny did it first in the childish belief that if you sell out enough other people your own sins will be forgiven?

He sounds like you, “My team at all costs!”
.

I’m with Vitus. They should both pay a much greater price for their transgressions

Berger did wrong and got a joke of a sentence…

Same will happen to Rove if he’s guilty. He’ll end up as a “special consultant” somewhere (Heritage Foundation, Fox News, or similar) and he’ll do much better financially, and have greater influence.

What team am I on?
