What an interesting game. Personally, I think Kansas got a break by getting VT instead of BC, but that’s what conference playoffs are for. I thought both sides had a number of chances to win, and if VT had kept running they probably would have pulled it off. What does that say about the coach/offensive coordinator that they can’t adjust their offense as quickly as their defense shut down Kansas in the second half. Kansas really got rattled on offense, but their pass defense and special teams kept them in it. But neither team look overly dominant. I was surprised at the number of penalties KU got, after watching the Missouri and Nebraska games, they seemed very disciplined. I’m amazed that the total score was under 100+ after watching Kansas/Missouri.
Where does this put Kansas in the BCS now? Does the BCS guarantee the Ohio State/LSU loser #2, or will they drop farther? My guess at a top 5:
Anyhow, agree that we should have stuck to the run. We got away with murder on that one passing series- interference, then the 2 Kansas defenders let the ball get away on what should have been an interception. I was not happy w/ Glennon’s passing at all. Defense did a great job 2nd half. Offense lost the game for Tech. Other than the return, special teams did not step up like we needed them to.
It’s not often I get to be a college football fan. I have no idea why VT stopped running the ball. Ore was getting 7 yards a carry and could have put the offense on his back, or at least made great play-action setups. And what was up with the obvious punt block attempt that allowed for the fake punt? Honestly, as much as I like KU, VT had so many opportunities to win and the game should have been theirs.
I agree w/ your rankings. I think KU will get a higher ranking than Mizzou … but I don’t understand why … Mizzou beat KU handily, and KU was actually HELPED in th epolls by NOT playing in the Big 12 title game (i.e., they didn’t lose against OU). Mizzou actually got punished in the rankings by losing their conf champ game (in which KU didn’t even get to play, as I already said).
I have a B-I-G problem with OU being ranked lower than KU or Mizzou. OU beat Mizzou twice and Mizzou beat KU eveb more than the 38-26 score wouls suggest.
Anyway, props to WVU’s defense. They made OU’s 40+pts/game offense look like crap for much of the game.
I just saw one of the Defensive Ends for BC as a patient (Nick Larkin) since he is home for the holidays and he also said he (and the team) was much happier to play Michigan State than Kansas. He was routing for his ACC brethren he mentioned though!
Apparently Kansas had more respect for those that see game film than those of us on the couch (myself included).
