Justin Gaitlin - still benefiting from doping four years ago

Bans might need to be much, much longer to be fair for steroid use.

I think I found the study but it’s from 2013, so not sure why it’s coming up in the news now other than Gaitlin’s success.

Might want to post this in the main forum if you haven’t already done so.

Thanks, wasn’t sure if people were getting sick of doping stuff in the main forum.

Of course they haven’t!

A couple sportswriters were saying there is proof that steroids didn’t affect baseball. Braun and Nelson Cruz did well after they came back so it proves the dope didn’t help.

Idiots.

Thanks, wasn’t sure if people were getting sick of doping stuff in the main forum.

Topics that people NEVER seem to get sick of on the Triathlon forum:

  • What’s more aero?
  • Doping
  • Lance Armstrong (often related to the topic above)
  • Critique my bike position / set-up?
  • WTC hate
  • Chinese Frames or wheels?
  • Should I buy this bike / what bike should I buy?

The only dope we talk about in here is Obama…

German discus thrower Robert Hartung has taken himself off the list of nominees for the IAAF “athlete of the year” award in protest of Gatlin also being nominated. Maybe that has something to do with the timing of the article?

Cheers,

Why are you picking on Justin Gatlin? Are you racist?

Doesn’t the argument that he still benefits from prior doping notwithstanding a 4-year suspension assume that he’s currently clean and has been clean for the prior four years? Seems like a pretty naive assumption.

Greene said: "Those are incredible performances. Not many people have run that fast separately, ever. To do it on a damp Friday night? I couldn’t believe those times.

  • "It shows one of two things: either he’s still taking performance-enhancing drugs to get the best out of him at his advanced age, or the ones he did take are still doing a fantastic job. *
  • “Because there is no way he can still be running that well at this late point in his career”*

Why isn’t the headline “Justin Gatlin Most LIkely Still Doping” instead of “Drug Cheats In Sport Could Benefit ‘for Decades,’ Scientist Finds”?

Sure, there was a quote in the article from another athlete skeptical that he’s clean. But since this is apparently some scientific study, I’d still like to see how they confirmed Gatlin was no longer doping. Or is this just mice?

Just mice.

I think the simplest explanation is that he’s still doped to the gills. The info about the mice is interesting and all, but from what little I got from the article, it doesn’t seem like the long term benefit of past use would be as dramatic as current use. Some, but not all of the benefit remains for years, apparently.

I found this quote pretty stupid;

“After having years on the sidelines, being unable to train or compete, it doesn’t really add up - 9.77 is an incredibly fast time. You only have to look at his performances. I don’t believe in them.”

Why wouldn’t he be training all that time. Do they think he just sat on the sofa and watched tv for 4 years? But they are right in that he is either still doping, or as i have always said, doping affects go on for years and years after stopping.
