Blame Canada!

Blame Canada!

Canada is to blame for all the world’s problems, I thought everyone knew that.

Thanks Obama!
.

Sadly we have similar thngs here in the states. Ive talked to my daughter about it even though she has never played under such rules. She voiced her opinion about how stupid it would be to not try to win. Of course she also body checked a boy in gym class playing ultimate frisbee and thought it was odd when the other girls informed her it was just a game.

For the record the boy was the son of her soccer coach so it was all in fun but I have a sneaky feeling it wouldnt have mattered.

That is crazy. I can see it at 4 or 6 but 17 come on the losers know they are getting beaten by that point they should be able to deal with it not whine.

Didnt South Park already cover this?

If this is implemented leave it to the Canadians to make the term “winning” utterly meaningless.

Winning…the new losing, brought to you by Molsen Light.

You should know…this is only in Ottawa currently. The birthplace/home of mediocrity. After all, that is where all the politicians are from after all.

Dang, if we had had that rule for my high school soccer team, our team would have had enough “wins” to qualify for the state championship!

I can see it now where both teams start scoring “own goals” in order to be the team that is behind by five goals.

Having said that, what’s up with a coach who keeps the “first string” in a game against a hapless team? At some point, why not put your “scrubs” into the game? If your “scrubs” are beating up on the other team, so be it. At that point, it’s the other team’s responsibility to prevent you from scoring. If they lose 100 to nil, that’s their problem.

I think you have the right of it re the scrubs, especially in the recreational league level. Hopefully their proposal to do a skills assessment next year to try to balance the teams a bit will make this stupid rule moot.

First, I think the rule as written is stupid. I do think if you are in a blowout lead you could so things like play your seconds to get them more experience, but not limit it by scoring.

However, based on this - *She voiced her opinion about how stupid it would be to not try to win. *- and other comments here (and in MANY other threads) where the losers should just suck it up, winners shouldn’t back off - is the following a good thing or bad thing?

Ha! I bet they didn’t think of that!!

This new rule is just another example of parenting gone wrong. Let’s coddle all these kids so they don’t get their feelings hurt. There are certain acts of sportsmanship that I think are appropriate, but this isn’t one of them. I like it when coaches play the weaker players once they have a big lead, although sometimes at younger ages you are forced to rotate players fully. I also like it when they force them to pass more or shoot with their off-hand or off-foot. When I coach basketball, I make the team pass at least 5 times before attempting a shot. I also make them shoot left-handed lay-ups only. Our league also forces us to not full court press (which I would never let our team do) if we’re up by more than 10 points.

As a Canadian I can tell you things are getting out of hand back home. Everyone is bending over backwards to treat all as equal in everything. They eliminate competitions, give every child an A+ etc., stop elite young athletes from dominating games, take from the rich to give to the poor etc. It’s embarrassing.

I have travelled extensively and would also like to put to bed the myth that Canadians are so nice. They aren’t any nicer than any other people, they just repeat the “opinion” that they are nice so often that they start believing it. If you don’t believe me, go downtown Toronto on a business day or drive on the 401 during rush hour and tell me if everyone is polite. No different than any other place on earth. I have found the friendliest people (by far) in the poor countries.

Sorry Canada, but it’s time we faced the truth.

Indeed.

“As a Canadian I can tell you things are getting out of hand back home… They eliminate competitions, give every child an A+ etc.”

I thought it was an Eh+. Guess I must have misunderstood.

a weird turn of fate, to win you have to defend the other team’s goal cuz’ they could win by repeatedly kicking the ball into their own net.
