Just want some $#%*&^ sleep

I can’t sleep anymore. Used to be a really grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat sleeper… gun shots wouldn’t wake me up. Now… my bf rolls over and I have to go in the other room because he’s bothering me! I used to just pass out after a long day at work and then training. I’m eating better, all that stuff. WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME???

Only a few weeks left for Madison. So, yes. This is my taper week and right now I feel like I’ve had 7 pots of coffee and 10 pints o’ Ben and Jerrys.

Try Ambien, Lunesta or Sonata.

well that explains it. it happens to me when i increase training like that. do you take naps during the day? that really helps

I never sleep anymore … i feel tired all day and then once its time to go to bed i get a sudden burst of energy or i get so tired that im actually too tired to sleep! I sleep like a baby before i race … but for the rest of the month i am totally restless … makes no sense! Good luck … try stretching before you get into bed - sometimes that works for me …and if all else fails take half an ambien for 2-3 nights until you get your body back on schedule.

How do you feel about wine?

Joe has some good advice in the TTB for improving the quality of your sleep. I’d post it but my copy is on loan to a friend at the moment…

Are you sure you are waking up because of him or because of overtraining?

One of the sure signs of OT is waking up at odd hours.

except alcohol can affect your sleep patterns later in the night causing you to wake earlier or miss on some of your deep sleep. That being said I’m on my second guiness for dinner.

I have two young kids. Both of whom just started ear infections. Guess where they’re sleeping? Guess who’s sleeping between them? Guess how restless they are? Guess who gets kicked in the kidneys and in the ahem all night long?

I mean, I’m sorry your boyfriend rolls over and disturbs you. =)

Sleep? What this sleep thing…I used to do that. Now, wake…wake…wake…wake…days later…pass out.

my experience - 1-2 glasses good sleep

3 or more - good sleep for about 3 hours then bad sleep.

I am still studying this.

E-caps sells Rem caps (fancy melantonin mix). I pop one in every once in awhile and they work for me. Recommend you try 'em, especially if melantonin has ever worked for you.

This happens to me when one of my 12 bosses puts me on third shift without asking me first, like now actually, and my body doesn’t know what to do with itself. But on the positive, i’ve been getting in two workouts a day in the nice weather!!!

like geekgoddess said, this is a sign of overtraining. I was going through the same exact problem and as i backed off training it went away.

This is more then anecdotal. Check out page 411 of “Lore of Running” by Noakes, he cites 7 studies that reference “changes in sleeping patterns, in particular, insomnia” and 3 studies where “Sleeping does not refresh” in overtrained athletes. I can give you more details if you are interested.

I attempted the “drink wine” method which for me just covered up the real problems.

Best of luck, i know that can be a very difficult situation. rest might be best…

do the Rem caps really work well?? They sent me a couple of bottles and I’ve never used them. Maybe I should give them a shot… Hell I’m going to grab one right now.

mtn man next week, gonna miss you guys out there. Are you doing Tahoe by any chance, know you’re going ot be in Maui. Did a florida race last week (wow it seems like a month ago) and C did the Milwaukee sport race as she’s yet to start run training at all. C Fell & was in ER on Thursday night (going down a crazy steep wet hill but she said the guys who were they were riding with made it, she’s riding with Stoltz and the 2nd place guy, of course they made it!) but was good enough for Sunday. She ended up winning sport, hey that’s still pretty good for zero running and Ingrid finally got out of 8th and wound up 6th in the big race. Me, I was in 2nd with .3 or so to go and pretty much went wacko delerious hitting the wall and visiting with the EMT guys for a while, dnf:(

I find Valerian root (just don’t smell the bottle when you open it) gives me some deep sleep and not to mention some vivid dreams. fun stuff.

Here is something I stumbled on a few months ago and have had some great results

I was browsing audio books at Audible.com and saw audio by Glenn Harrold. He makes hypnotic relaxation recordings designed to make you relax and sleep and depending which title you get he gives you hypnotic suggestions geared to motivation, increasing your energy level, achieving your goals, increasing confidence, etc.

I typically have trouble getting my mind to slow down when I first get to bed so I listen to one of these (there are 2x30 minute tracks on each title) and I never make it to the end of the first 30 minute recording but apparently even if I am asleep I still absorb the suggestions. Maybe I am more susceptible to these thing than others but I have noticed a big difference in both sleep (getting to sleep and STAYING asleep through the night) and other areas such as motivation and energy levels which I consider a nice bonus.

I always sleep after great sex. That being said, I sleep okay after my solo efforts. So I am sleeping okay these days.
