Just started building a new bike: Javelin Arcole

In my funk over having this nasty sinus infection I decided to do the best thing a guy can do: Buy a new bike.

I have a new 51cm 700c Javelin Arcole sitting here. I got the frame, fork and seatpost and am building it up now. This is an interesting bike. I know a few guys on this forum race on Arcoles as does Simon Lessing and Michael Lovato along with the entire TIAA Cref Professional Cycling Team.

I’m pretty stoked to try it. Was that Gary who posted the pick of his Arcole with the Rotor Cranks?

A short report will go up here along with photos when I get it done for your review and commentary.

Why not the Barolo?

I’m disappointed in you Tom. No Barolo?

I think this was asked the other day, but never saw the response! How many bikes do you own?!? How the heck do you decide which one to ride?

And how do you pay for them all?

So a coworker comes into the office yesterday showing everyone his new DV camera. It’s the latest, meaning smallest, Sony camcorder. While he’s showing off the features and we’re all pretending to be interested, another coworker, whose one of many jobs is underwater videographer and knows his gear, comments that it’s too small and asks why did he buy it. The man with the camera responds sharply, “Because I can!”

Well, right now I have to admit I have a few really nice bikes. I guess, ultimately though, the right answer is that I have about 300 bikes right now and am waiting for about 40 more…

My bikes though are:

Javelin Arcole, Dura-ACe 10 speed.

Guru Cron-Alu (I love this bike), Dura-Ace 10 speed.

Cervelo R2.5 (another total winner and my oldest bike), Campag Record 10.

Bianchi Freccia Celeste Team Liquigas, Campag Record 10.

And my back and forth to work bike, a Fisher Montare.

That’s it.

I kind of like the seat stays on the Arcole. Beefy and fast. I like em.

I thought Lessing and Lovato were on Barolos…

I’d be VERY VERY interested in how you think that bike would handle a long ride. Seems VERY stiff and not so comfy. Please post a review…

I got a bunch of photos on them from Javelin of them on Arcoles. But I think you are right- I believe they switched to Barolos or are doing so.

Nice choice Tom

As for the Barolo comments

It was not available as of April, to the best of my knowledge

My next rig will be a Barolo however.

You’d piss your pants a lesson if you walked into Bikesport…it’s very cool place w/ lots of badass bikes!

That front brake looks really funky…reminds of me of those Campy Delta brakes from years back…what’st the advantage with those vice standard brakes?

Also, what’s the Polar doohickie on the chainstay? Some sort of watt meter?

Simon Lessing and Michael Lovato have ridden Arcoles for their races so far this year, they will both be racing on Barolos at Ironman Coeur d’Alene. Lauren Jensen (3rd at IM Brazil) has chosen to remain on her Arcole.

I saw 2 dudes from SBR after the race (Harriman sprint tri) yesterday, both had Arcoles. Sweet looking bike. Looks fast just sitting there.

So - was it a coincidence that both SBR athletes also happened to have Arcoles, or do you have some sort of sponsorhip dealie with them?
