Wear a white sock on just that foot, Make sure the photographers get good close ups of your bloody sock. You can be the Curt Schilling of Eagleman w your bloody sock.
UGH - you may be OK. Nick White above has a good idea but, for you, would it stay on in the swim? Could you ever get it off without a lot of skin if you use duct tape? Would adhesive tape and thin socks work? Should you apply it in T1 having already prepared it and getting the skin really dry first?
The reason I go thru this litany of questions is the old adage of “Don’t try anything new on race day,” which I broke at Eagleman 10 years ago with a new saddle and paid for it with every stroke of the pedals. (I also broke a toe at Eagleman once during the pre-race swim warm up kicking a submerged rock. That made for a long race. Careful there.)
So, I’d suggest you think this through carefully and try whatever seems to make sense for you tonight and run/bike some making whatever adjustments you need to have this work for you. Good luck and I hope it’s not too hot on Sunday!
Do not put liquid band aid on right away. Let the wound “ooze” a bit first. THen liquid band air or new skin. Once that dries I’d go heavy on the EZ glide on the heel and cake your shoes (both bike and run shoes) with vasoline. I think you will be ok - just keep it clean until saturday - then apply the liquid band-aid.
Super Glue…coat that shit on. And whomever said it is correct, the origional application of super glue was for medical purposes. That $500 bottle of super glue your DR used on you for surgery, same stuff at home depot, just a different package. Glue it and go. And do what Pre would do…kick ass.
thanks so much for the feedback folks… i am going to try some different things over the coming days and if nothing works i will just coat the shit out of my heel and throw 1 sock on… i am trying to PR this year so this shit made me freak out!!!
super glue — let it harden, then duct tape. works every time… of course if it is a puncture wound you should not super glue it and seek medical attention.
nickwhite beat me to it, but duct tape can work wonders. I used to duct tape my feet when I’d get blisters from windsurfing where they would contact the foot straps, so I could keep sailing, sometimes for days in succession. It was like getting new, indestructible skin, on demand.
a little late now, i guess … but screw the duct tape … I use kenesio tape as an arch support to treat PF and properly wrapped it’ll last 3 or 4 days through swimming and showers. It’s fabric and dries out pretty well and doesn’t have any negative side effects other than rolling a bit when you put on or take off socks. If you’re not wearing socks that’s not an issue … just wrap it all the way around your foot/ankle so that it sticks to itself, and turn the corners of the end under the wrap, so that you’re getting an adhesive/adhesive contact point.
+3 for the duct tape. It will hold up and protect well. You still may need to wear a sock on the duct tape foot just so friction doesn’t lift and roll an edge.
About 3 days before Augusta 70.3 I got a huge nasty infected blister on the back of my heel cleaning up the great Atlanta floods. I used a combination of liquid bandage (many many many coats) after letting it dry out. I didn’t even know that I had a blister during the race. Completely forgot about it.

Here’s my photo op. Sockless Xterra on sandy soil in a rainstorm.
If you can’t see the colors clearly, that’s blood running out of my shoes.
Seems to me that superglue would not only hold the wound closed, but if spread over the whole area would negate any friction with the skin. Doesn’t come off in the swim either. Sounds like the perfect solution.
