Just moved to the South Bay area (san jose) and im looking for a competitive running, cycling and swimming group to train with. Track group workouts, masters swims or some fast road rides would be perfect! If you have any ideas on where to start please feel free to offer them up. Or, if you have a tri team that is pretty solid with some fast guys to train with that would be great too!
I cannot answer your call for info b/c when I lived in CA all that I did was work and windsurf, but I would like to say that you have a great training venue.
I moved away from Sunnyvale around 8 years ago, but I would recommend stopping by Running Revolution in Campbell (http://www.runningrevolution.com/). The owners (Chris and Tim) were pretty connected to the running/tri scene in the south bay.
Welcome to the area! You should check out the Silicon Valley Tri Club. They are a large group and have a wide range of abilities. For cycling, there is always the San Jose Bike Club. They have some fast group rides.
There are lots of competitive masters swim groups in that area.
I’ve been told that Mountain View Masters is a good group.
You can start by looking at USMS.org then scroll over to “Places to Swim”
A visiting swimmer from Menlo Park said that Tim Sheeper’s group is also very competitive.
Do you know exactly where you’ll be living and working in the area?

I will be living in Santa clara. My job requires me to drive up and down the peninsula most days. Im also in napa, santa rosa or novato for the day a couple days a week then driving back down. I can sometimes make early (5am workouts) and can sometimes make 3-5pm workouts and most definitely can make 5-8pm workouts.
Any direction is appreciated! I was thinking of checking out the masters group at the Santa clara aquatics center. Any thoughts?
Google the noon ride…alviso ride…tons of cycling teams if that is your thing…alto velo…pen velo…san jose etc., tons of masters groups for swimming…you’ve got stanford, et. al., bunch of running groups as well…there’s an elite team that trains out at stanford…you will find whatever you want…bunch of former olympians in all the discipines that live and train out here…
Masters at Santa clara is definitely a good one as is stanford’s. I honestly don’t think you need to join a team for the riding you can latch on to any of the local rides to test your mettle like the morning ride out of palo alto, the spectrum on the weekends. I’d probably join a masters just for the pool access. Welcome to the peninsula. What you should really be asking though is where are the good restaurants.
If you are into Ramen…Orenchi Ramen on Lawrence Expressway well worth the wait. Korean Fried Chicken…Bon Chon in sunnyvale…

Welcome to the area! I just moved here in June and like it so far. Also just joined the Master’s Group at the Santa Clara Aquatics Center and it seems really solid. Morning and evening workouts. There are several running stores down here with running groups; Sports Basement on Lawrence Expressway, Running Revolution in Campbell, Zombie Runner in Palo Alto to name a few. There’s also a few quality running groups on meetup such as the Stevens Creek Striders, if you’re into trail running.
There’s also the Silicon Valley Triathlon Club. I haven’t interacted with them; but worked with the girlfriend of one of their coaches. They seem to have workouts you can drop in on 2 - 4 times a week.
