Will they push back out over time? I think they were pushed in because of the way they were stored in the box. They’re flexible enough and bend, but I’m wondering if they’ll return to their original flat shape, or if I should return it.
It’s not extreme in the sense that I can’t get my noggin in the thing, not even that they’re on my ears when the helmet’s on my head. They’re just noticeably not…flat.
Give it a couple days and see if they spring back. If not, put a spacer similar to the size of your head (a basketball? ) between the flaps (Don’t stretch it hard/fast enough to break it) and see if it eases back to shape. If packing it forced them together, a little gentle pressure the other way should restore them back to the original position.
My aero helmet came with the ear flaps pushed in as well (because of a ridiculous packing job) , and the seller gave me a huge discount to just keep the helmet and not send it back. In the end, it didn’t affect performance.
I always pack mine in the bike box when travelling and the ear flaps inevitably cave inwards. Just push the ear flaps back out and wear the helmet on a ride - problem solved. I’ve always been a huge advocate of the RP Wingspan, but I recently picked up the Giro Selector and am pretty excited about using it.
I bent the ear flaps on my own the first time I put the helmet on. I reinforced the area between the ear flap padding and the helmet padding., right were the flaps bend, I used plastic from a ear phone package (the kind that takes 2 men and a gorilla to open), I first made a paper template, then cut the strips from the package material and plastic type glue (2 strips per side).
