Just got my volunteer assignment for IMLP

I’m looking forward to watching the race this year. I’ll do what I did last year, watch the swim start and then head out to a bike aid station. A couple things to remember if you are racing, which I picked up from last year:

Make sure you get what you need at the stop. If you miss the first couple tables for water/gatorade, slow down, we have more at the last couple tables. Handing off drinks at 20+ MPH takes a little practice for both parties, and sometimes bottles are dropped. No worries, just get another. This is not a good time to deviate from your nutrition plan.

If you need anything, just yell. Believe me, we are only too happy to get the racers what they want - especially at the last couple tables of the stop, whether it be oranges, bananas, jell, drink, ice, or even something for your bike like an air pump, just let us know

Please, after the stop, if you want to get rid of something, throw it soon after the stop, within a quarter mile or so. We can pick it up, but last year there was a lot of stuff on the ground 1/2 mile or 1 mile away. Let’s try to keep the area clean.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks for all your help…

How nice of you! Lots of folks don’t know about the mentioned tips. I am not doing LP but thanks for your efforts in volunteering. It can be exhausting. I worked both the timing for the swim start and end of the day finish area. It’s a long day not only for the athletes but the volunteers as well.
It’s people like you that make the athlete’s day all it can be whether you are having a good race or not so good race.

Thanks for the tips and for volunteering!
