Saw this today and I applaud their insistence on science and common sense. So who here is a hold out still on the vaccine and a Boston want to be? Will it get you off the fence? On another note, this new rule is also letting them go to 30k entrants again, so suppose the qualifying times will be closer that they have been…

Have no problem with the vax.
Here’s a question though. Are they shortening the qualifying window for 2023?
For 2022, BAA site says qualifying window is Sept 1, 2019 - Nov. 12, 2021.
But for 2023, it says window starts Sept 1, 2021…
Material to me, as I ran a certified race in Sept 2020. (and was -10 min for my AG). Was planning to wait for 2023, but maybe not now…
The qualifying window for the 2022 Boston Marathon is open from September 1, 2019 through the conclusion of the registration period, November 12, 2021.
The qualifying window for the 127th Boston Marathon, scheduled to take place on April 17, 2023, began on September 1, 2021. Registration details for that race will be announced following the 2022 Boston Marathon.
I doubt that anyone holding out this long would let a marathon entry sway them. Maybe one here and there if the race is a bucket list item for them, but let’s be honest…Boston isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Hey Dan, so this may be quite timely for you, as it looks like the entires are due really quick. I dont know the particulars if you are eligible or not for 2023, but it appears that next year is your year, so better get on it quickly whether you are going to go or not…
I’m curious if this will be the trend. I think it makes a lot of sense for places like Kona with limited hospital beds.
I have a friend who’s anti-vax, at least for covid, who KQ just before the pandemic. Don’t know person very well but I do wonder about this person’s decision to race if required. This person knows at least one other healthcare professional in frontlines of covid but has not reached out to either.

I don’t think your race from 9/2020 will qualify you for Boston 2023. But they’re not really shortening the window. It seems, instead, that they intend to go back to the traditional window after Boston 2022.

Gotcha - I couldn’t remember if times were traditionally good for 2 or 3 years. Cheers.

Thank Monty… yep, looks like I better fire up the application next week!

Just do a Virtual Boston, you get the medal and a jacket
I have a friend who did this, her run time was 5:58 total time including starbucks stops was over 7+ hours.

They used to be good for about a year and a half when Boston wouldn’t fill up until January or even later. So if you ran a fall marathon it would be good for two Bostons. More recently the window has been barely over a year as it opens September 1 from the prior year, and goes till the end of registration which as I recall is end of September maybe early October.

This. The people who are “still doing their research” are well past their due date. Time to hand in your assignment.
Boston was at 90+% & catered to the anti-vaxx crowd to some extent with testing. That’s an expense they don’t want moving forward. Maybe a handful of people will get the vaccine but the Boston community seemed to be well ahead of the curve already.

Agreed, though it is hilarious to hear the calls of “tyranny” and “anti-freedom BAA” being swaged by “woke” corporations.
This is a much more efficient way to operate as an event organizer. I travel to medical trade meetings a lot for work and they are all “with vaccine only” nowadays.

So other side of the coin I ran my BQ this week… Did I hit the jackpot and qualify for both?

One of my friends works in investment/banking and got tickets to take a couple clients to a Gonzaga men’s basketball game. He said he didn’t want to pry but mentioned to them that they would need to be vaccinated (or at least tested maybe?) in order to attend. Upon hearing this the one client who wasn’t vaccinated immediately went and got it that afternoon.
So while a lot of people have made their choice and will do anything to remain in their camp, there are some ‘holdouts’ out there that can still be pushed into the vaccinated camp.

Congrats! Yes, it should be good for both 2022 and 2023 unless they change something which I doubt they will.
while i don’t see small print around this, i suspect they will cover this loophole and say 1 qualifying race&race time = 1 entry…not 1 qualifying race&time = 2 entries. ie: pick your year.

While I would love for you to be wrong - this does feel like the right thing to do

They won’t. There have been certain races that, for years, have meant you could qualify for two different Bostons using the same race.
