Just finished my first 40K TT, now a diff problem

Just did a 40k and have no idea of timing as they didnt have the times posted yet for the Cat 5, thats me, guys so Im not too sure how I did. I do, however know now that I couldve gone harder on the ride knowing now just how long 40k is. Here is my new discovery: I have the ISM Tri saddle, with the nose angled down slightly and, well, my boys went numb. I couldve gone harder and increased my speed but there were two times where I had to get out of the saddle just to get a little feeling back in there. Anyone ride one of these? I have read of people zip tying the rails to bring the nose in a little and Im thinking about doing this if thats why people do that. So, Im looking for some feedback. Thanks

Got the same saddle, nose flat though same problems and i do ty rap the nose as the seat is a little too wide for me.
What i have found is that this saddle works better with less chamois in your shorts, the numbness comes for me only when i wear the thick padding. No issue with a good pair of tri-short and is more comfortable.

I don’t know of any bike seat manufactured that isn’t supposed to be ridden horizontally. They are designed that way. I know of people that turn the nose a fraction to one side. I know of people that tilt. I think all these movements are because they have the wrong seat for them.

I strongly believe in the split or gap seat designs - so many to choose from out there now I’d look at getting one.

By angled down, on this particular saddle, that actually levels it out. Its a different design. Im really not a fan of the whole numbness thing going on. How did you narrow yours?

somewhat off topic, but does anyone know where I can find out about time trials in Northern CA (when/where etc, have tried a few sites with no luck)?

Check bikereg.com. Thats where a lot of the races are posted. Its getting towards the end of the season though.

C’mon, the whole race is only about an hour, so we’re talking a few minutes of numbness over the last 1/4 to 1/3… just hammer faster and you’ll be done sooner. The feeling will come back shortly after it’s over. Really.

my question is, whatre the ramifications of the numbness?

prolly “not good” and you don’t need to put up with it.

first, the adamo rails should be level, try to set it up that way.

also, squeezing the fronts together with zip ties is to prevent chafing on the thighs, not to prevent numbness, the whole point of the prongs is to prevent numbness.

I expect you are sitting too far back on it or have the angle funky.

you junk should be hanging off the front of the saddle completely and the soft tissue behind it should be in the gap of the prongs. your sit bones should be the bits touching the seat.

but, if you can’t make it work for ya, keeping trying saddles and adjustments until ya do, its worth the effort to get it right.

also, pedalling harder will take some weight off =)
.

Thanks for the information. Im going to make some seat adjustments and definitely narrow the seat a little by spanning a zip tie between the rails and bringing it in a little bit as I am getting some rubbing on the inside of my leg while sitting. Ill see if I can get them right before my 20k TT on Sunday.

You’re sitting too far back on it.
Don’t ride it like a traditional saddle.
The rubbing goes away the more you move forward.

If you want, I’ll trade for a Profile Tristryke Ti with 5 rides on it.

Check http://www.ncnca.org/road for USA Cycling races in Nor-Cal. Coming up we have the Esparto TT. https://new.sportsbaseonline.com/events/index.xhtml?categoryId=10519 on 9/6. The Folsom South Canal TT https://new.sportsbaseonline.com/events/index.xhtml?categoryId=6102 on 9/11.

Esparto and the South Canal TT will require a license, but I’m pretty sure you can get a one day license. But you will need to pre-enter. Don’t show up expecting to register on the day unless you like wasting your time.

There are also biweekly 10 mile TT’s in Davis and Folsom. Check out http://www.stuzio.com/StuzioArticle.aspx?articleID=1124 for Putah Creek and http://www.stuzio.com/StuzioArticle.aspx?articleID=1107 for Folsom.

These two mid week TT’s are free low key training races. I haven’t been to Folsom, but Putah Creek is a really fast course. At least two guys have gone under 20 minutes for 10 miles. Don’t be intimidated though as the riders range from hard core national class to local riders doing it for fun.
