Suppose that is why and how I became a triathlete back in 78, I just did all the events and was pretty good at them. We had the lifeguard ironman here, but it was run/swim/paddle/ row a dory solo. The rest of the world had a surfski instead of a dory and in the late 70’s we added that race also, along with just the surfski one. They still do all those other silly events in the open category, but for us age groupers we have 8 events to do, 9 if you get a partner and row the dory race. I just had a look at the schedule, probably have to miss a couple events as the are on separate courses and around the same time…
Had another 4 day taper and felt great today in the high pool, so did some hard sprint stuff to keep my feel and strength:

yeah the dory and ski events are pretty dramatic when they hit those first few waves. love watching on the telly. absolute commentators dream when the craft flips
when was the last time you did nat champs? they always on west coast?
They bounce the nats from one coast to the other and then in the middle somewhere. My last was a couple years ago when it was actually at my old beach, pretty rare for that to happen. Last year was in Texas and this year is in Huntington Beach just down the road from me, so an easy one for travel. They are predicting 4 to 7ft surf it looks like, which may even get the age group boats cancelled, we will see.
Staying up late here, gonna watch Ledecky and Summer swim their 800 heats. Wonder if either will smash it just to try and psyche the other out…
The Gulf of America of course,(-; Texas has quit a long area of beach coastline. Its a place called south padre island, they were also the first place that would host during covid times. That was fun watching it rip through the lifeguard competitors, then they all took it home with them to their respective cities.

Yesterday really struggled with doing IM then swimming steady trying to bring hr down. Did 2x200 Im on 3, 750 on 10, twice througj no stop. Was really hard for me and great strength building.
