Congrats Jonas!! Great job!

Congrat’s…looks like a fast day. The top women went under 9 as well.

Just finished Almere today. Race conditions were okay, a bit more wind than the weatherforecast and that’s what makes this race hard. It’s all flat on the open fields, temperature was around 25 degrees Celsius and the run was hot, no clouds.
Yvonne van Vlerken was absloute worldclass, set a new course record in 8:58, just 2 months after Roth. Superb!
2nd female Heleen bij de Vaate in 9:12, also a really really fast time!

SWEET!!! And it looks like he had the fastest run of the day.

Congrats to Jonas on another incredible performance.

But I want to know who this woman is:

14 401 Yvonne van Vlerken D24 Ned Finish 08:57:54 00:16:10 00:42:20 00:58:30 00:02:10 01:40:00 01:32:24 01:35:35 04:47:58 05:46:27 00:02:17 01:00:13 01:03:01 01:05:57 03:09:11

She just beacked up a 4:47 bike with a 3:09 marathon. These are Paula Newby Fraser-Sue Latshaw-Lori Bowden-Kate Allen type times!

Congrats Jonas.

Way to go Teemu!!!

Sorry, I’m a Finn, so I’m pleased a Finn won.
.

She won Roth a few months ago…in 8:51 (with a 2:58 marathon). From the race website: “Top duathlete Yvonne van Vlerken took a dramatic 8:51:55 win in her first long course triathlon on Sunday, running her way to the first sub-9 hour performance here in 10 years. Van Vlerken became the first Dutch woman to win in Roth since the legendary Dutch triathlete Thea Sybesma won here in a then world-best time of 8:55:29** **in 1991. Paula Newby Fraser eventually lowered that record to 8:50:53 in 1994, a mark that still stands as the world’s fastest.” She was 5th last year in the 70.3 champs in FL.

Yeah, Thea Sybesma was bullet fast…sorry to leave her off the the “list” of the fastest women times :-). So will Van Vlerken be in Kona? Does not sound like she has done a qualifer race, but the woman pros that get all the media attention in North America better be worried about this Dutch woman!

i don’t know if she qualified at the 70.3 world cup last year (i think she was 5th)but she won’t be racing kona because of the duatlon world cup, where she’s going to defend her title.

Yes,
the guy who won the race, Teemu Toivanen, really deserves his victory. He’s had some big misfortunes this season. He was supposed to have ITU long course Worlds as his A race but the airline lost his luggage and bike so he couldn’t even start the race. He shoved that when you trust in yourself, anything can happen! So way to go Teemu!!

Thanks everyone! I was very happy with my finish as everything didn´t exactly go as planned.
I got a flat on the bike with 25 k to go when I was riding in the front group of four. Since I´m not a tech-wiz it took me a few minutes extra followed by a hard hard pursuit back in the wind.
I came in about six minutes behind the leaders and took out the run very hard! I ran the first 15 k in 53 minutes and was just catching 3rd place when I got some extreme sidestitches and was forced to alk for a while before I could resume jogging. I rallied on and with one lap to go I was content to finish just by running ugly and sucking it up but not worrying about positions. I had my hands full balancing all the physical drama at that point. Others were however suffering even more as I once again overtook 3rd place, Bart Flier, and when I hit the long 4 k stretch along the lake that brings you back to the finish, I saw second place, Chris Brands, just 30 seconds ahead of me. Damn, no more “just running and finishing” but an actual racefinish. I guess that´s what´they call a killerinstict, but I was concerned that the only killing being done would be selfinflicted as I was in serious discomfort. Anyway a homestretch is a homestretch and with a k´to go I was shadowing him and knowing that I could make a k´, even if it would mean crawling on bloody knees like ,y own private Golgata, I took the chance to speed up and Chris couldn´t hold on. So I smacked away a 3.30 km and just made 2nd! Couldn´t have been happier. That´s all I could have asked when all was said and done. Not a perfect race on a not so perfect day (way too hot!) but I´m happy to have done the most of it.
Too bad me and Teemu weren´t able to duke it out mano a mano after my flat, it would have been a great run to have gone out together! He was a true champion though! He held strong on the run and didn´t falter. Well deserved.

Great job Jonas, you rock! What’s your schedule for the rest of the year?

-Colin

Congrats!

Also big thumbs up for Jerzy (fourth in Almere) he did his first long distance triathlon.

Jonas
