So I was looking for Ironman by Black Sabbath on the internet and whoa…
The Ironman Triathlon Album by John Tesh? Please say it ain’t so! According to his website (hey I just followed the link, give me a break) “This is John’s famous soundtrack to the legendary Ironman; intense rock instrumentals perfect for workouts or driving”.
Song List: (1992)
PS491
Ironman
Monterey Nights
One To One
The Grip
Exit Mulholland
Dijon Reprise
Group 5
Wimby Thrills
Please tell me someone out there owns this. It would be a shame to produce an album which didnt sell to his intended audience.
IT WAS A GIFT!!!
I have it somewhere in a stack of old CDs. First let me say that you would probably recognize some of it-- or some of his Tour de France CD music (many RDs play it at the start/finish line-- recently heard some of Tesh’s stuff at Columbia this year). Back before he became the cheesy musician that everybody thinks of— he was actually a sports commentator for CBS— In the mid to late 80s he wrote a lot of music that was used behind the footage of the TdF and IM shown on TV. Way before ESPN and OLN started actually showing the races.
I’ll fess up to having it on cassette. It’s scary. But used as the backdrop of the Ironman broadcast in the early 90s it wasn’t too awful. On its own; frightening.
I extinctly remember then using some Allan Parsons song while showing the Energy Lab (don’t ask me to name it, they all sound alike to me. I could get my ProgRock friend to ID it).
Why can’t they just put a song credit at the bottom, like they do for surfing, MTB’ing, etc.???
Alright…out of the closet with me. Yeah I own it…whatsyer point. It really isn’ as bad as all that. If you’re thinking about buying it you might opt instead for his Tour album. Much better. But like anything in this world there are some that will and some that won’t like it. Can’t hurt to try it.
Kentiger, you are strong man .I would imagine that listening to John Tesh while driving would be no different than listening to Wagner. It could induce me to drive off a cliff.
I didn’t know if the album ever sold retail but it was in the athletes registration packets that year. Honey Bunny has his somewhere out in the garage with the rest his decades of Ironman history.
BTW - Iron Man by Black Sabbath is played at the beginning of the awards banquet video. There are a few key songs they use every year for the awards video that make me thing if Ironman if I hear it on the radio or in the grocery store.
yo…I got that CD and it is great. Friends of mine ask what and who it is and I tell them
John Tesh and they bust a gut. But that is damn good driving and especially racing music.
I got mine of EBAY. Look under “triathlon” or “ironman” and see what you find. I think I paid
$5 to $10 for it.
