As I sat here and watched this the only thought that kept coming to mind, “What is wrong with us?”
I’ve had a very bad day, and I know I may be more emotional than usual, but this has just made me profoundly sad.
He is absolutely correct
It is a stain on all the legislators. It demonstrates contempt and a complete lack of respect for those that went, no questions asked, to do something at enormous risk to themselves.
The child like response of making it the states responsibility, or claiming they have no idea what the future looks like is disgraceful as individuals die and their families lose both close relatives and bread winners

This item got barely a mention on the local news this morning. Maybe it got more last night, I don’t know, but it deserves a full segment at the very least. It was a very powerful statement to Congress.
This is the one that got to me. Yes I realize and think he did too after he made the statement that this was a room designed for a bigger committee but there were still 2 that weren’t there that apparently sponsored the bill.
"There is not a person here, there is not an empty chair on that stage, that didn’t tweet out, ‘Never forget the heroes of 9/11,’ " Stewart said.
“Well, here they are! And where are they?”
And he also called out the Senate (which is where it will go from the House) and a “certain someone” there that will likely attach the bill to something else. I agree with him, Why is this so hard, every single time.

Jon Stewart wasted a lot of political potential by being in comedy for years. He is a very good speaker, and powerfully gets his point across. Always thought he was funny, may not agree with him on a lot of things - although I do on this particular case - but he’s got a better head on his shoulders than almost everyone in Washington. Come to think of it, he didn’t waste time in comedy, Washington is beneath him.
What is it that isn’t being done?
These people have to have health insurance, right?
I have no idea if they have health insurance. What I do know is that these people are fucking heroes of the highest order and if they don’t have insurance or insurance is screwing them then the Government should step up and take care of them.

To me this is no different than if they were military and were injured while serving. Sure they may have insurance but it is the government’s job to take care of them for injuries suffered in the line of fire.

There’s currently a bill in congress to make the fund permanent with no cut in benefits and it’s going to pass.

I don’t know enough about this subject to really chime in but if all of this is true, then why are all these First responders so pissed off?
They’ve been warned cuts are coming soon if additional money isn’t secured. It will run out prior to its 2020 expiration. The hearing was to discuss renewal of the bill. It should be renewed and I’d think simply from a political perspective it would be suicide not to. However there were efforts to block a prior extension so saying something will happen in Washington is about worth what you paid for that until it actually happens (and surely someone will attach some unrelated rider as they always seem to do)
These people are worried about future diagnoses and care for current illnesses and future ones. The concern is justified
