John Cobb has a new saddle for roadies and

the wrist relief extensions! http://www.cobbcycling.com/cart/Seats_C1.cfm

Having used the V-Flow Plus for some time, I have high expectations on the V-Flow HC170. It looks similar to at least a couple of existing road saddles but knowing JC, I am sure that the HC170 will be a seat to keep.

The weight weenies will also not be dissapointed ;-).

Sergio

I’ve got some good miles on one. I rode it for a week on my MTB, and it was awesome there. Now I’ve got it on my road bike, and I really like it there as well. First time I’ve ever liked a saddle with a cutout. I’m going to test it on my tribike. I think he might need to shift the padding from the rear to the nose to make it better for tri, but I still think it could be good. It’s a really nice saddle. For road and MTB, I really like it. For triathlon, I’m not sure (yet).

You’ve got to be kidding me!

I just got a Max in the mail yesterday for my road bike and rode 45km on it last night. It was EXTREMELY comfortable. The V-Flow Plus saddle is on my Tri bike and it’s great, but if I’d known of the HC170 I probably would have taken a chance on it. What to do…

Ken

Buy it too, then return the one you don’t want. 6 month warranty

The HC170 appears longer and not geared towards long course athletes. I could be wrong, but if no nose/short nose is your thing I do not think the HC170 is your thing.

I bought a V-Flow Max about a month ago. Spent an hour on it on the rollers the day I got it, then went out and did 95 miles the next morning with no issues whatsoever. A month later I’m still happy with it. I’ve got both a 650c and a 700c TT bike … so I just bought a second V-Flow Max. John will probably end up getting some more of my money when I try the new road saddle. Stop it, John!

I got the V-Flow Max last month also and love it. Can’t wait till I get some extra cash to put one on my road bike.

JC mentions in the description of the seat that it is a “new saddle for Road Racers”. It is not intended for long course triathlons (but I am sure it will be used for that by some) but more for road racers.

There are riders interested in such a seat. I love the V-Flow Plus on my MTB and road bike but my 16 y/o son would rather use the HC170 instead of the V-Flow Plus in all of his bikes except his TT and Pursuit bikes.

Bob,
Did you ever use the Adamo saddles? If so, how did this compare?

I want to see if I can get him to shift that padding from the rear to the nose for triathlon. Then we could call it the BAMF170.

The Cobb V-flow is more of a “reduced nose” design than a noseless like the Adamo. Its a little narrower through the front, which I prefer as the Adamo irritates the adductor origin on the inside of my groin. The V Flow Max is a little wider than the Plus.
I will have to look at the the new one for my mountain and road bike…

Kevin

So John what Saddle is the best to ride with on a tri bike??? V-Flow Plus or V-Flow Max???

Bob,
Did you ever use the Adamo saddles? If so, how did this compare?

I raced on an Adamo for the first half of last year … up through Nationals. I never got the hang of it. That was my second attempt, too. When I finally zip-tied the prongs up front to make it a bit more narrow, it was a little better. The only real reason I went with it was because it’s short and it allowed me to achieve a UCI-legal position and still feel like I had some saddle left beneath me.

In contrast, the V-flow Max was a home run right out of the box. I now have quite a number of 3 to 5 hour rides on it and it’s awesome. One thing I really like is, when I really bear down and start to ride towards the front of the saddle, it’s a very comfortable, yet solid platform to push against. My only concern with it is that, if I decide to race nationals again, I’m probably going to have to go back to the Adamo. Proper positioning of this saddle for me is only 2 cms behind the BB – well short of the UCI minimum. I tried moving it back to see what would happen and my butt was nearly airborne.

I wonder if he’ll make a ‘cut-off’ version.

I assume you have recovered from your crash since you’re doing long rides on a TT bike???

“Recovered” isn’t exactly the right word. I’m learning to cope. The ribs and lung are fine. Thanks for your help with that. I herniated a disc in my back later in the Spring. That’s been a much bigger problem. Less drama and trauma, but more chronic and aggravating. It’s coming around, but slowly. Thanks for asking. My “A” race is six weeks off … so I push through.

How are you gettin’ on?

Bob

Those disc herniations can be pretty uncomfortable.
Do your core work. Good luck with your A race.
I tried a 39k TT a few months ago. I was ecstatic to be a couple of min under an hour, I was 12th in my AG. I got blasted by the AG (55yo) winner, who was a little over 50 min. HOLY. I was thoroughly humbled. And, an open TT is HARD!!!

Thanks for your input. I’m doing great, other than too busy to train as much as I’d like.
After my fit at Fistapalooza, and my new/used P3(Al) my bike leg is much better. Now, if I can drop a few lbs…
I don’t mind my Adamo for an hour or so, but after that it’s not so comfy. I have the originally Blackwell Flow, but I had numbness with it.
I have it on my old bike on my trainer. That’s Maxx looks like a winner.

You’re in California, right? Lemme guess … Novitsky? I’ve been Novitskied.

I’ll have to check the name. He blew away most of the Cat1/2 folks.

Nope, not Novitsky. It’s scary how fast some of you TT guys are.
