Jimmie Johnson NASCAR triathlete

NASCAR however has guys like Tony Stewart, who is a very good driver, but is by no means a specimen of physical fitness. The Daytona 500 featured 3 drivers over the age of 50 (Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte and Michael Waltrip)…you don’t see that in FI.

You are going by looks.

Triathletes don’t look like specimens of physical fitness, but most here would argue all day long that they are.

Power lifters don’t look like specimens of physical fitness, but most in their world would say they are.

Looks don’t tell you much at all and it is foolish to use that as a metric.

I’m sitting at my desk staring at the race track (one with lefts and rights) my office is on, what do I possibly know about the demands of driving.

I think the line of thinking that you have to ‘look fit’ to be an athlete is flawed. Numerous easy examples of professional athletes that appear overweight and/or unfit. Look at the offensive or defensive lines of every NFL team and you will see many. Many, many MLB players are overweight. Many NBA players are too. Yet they are all paid for their athletic abilities. So to simply base your argument on looks is flawed. I was at an IM this weekend. Hmmm. Plenty of overweight athletes achieved Ironman status.
