Jewelry on craigslist, ebay, etc

Where’s the best place to sell an unused wedding dress and a $500 men’s gold and diamond ring with all the paperwork? I thought about craigslist since I’m not a regular user of ebay, but as a buyer I would be skeptical of purchasing jewelry over the internet. Am I better off going to a pawn shop and getting hosed?

i’ve got a nearly new wedding ring to get rid of also. after you take your hosing and i get mine wanna take what little money we’re gonna get for the goods, meet somewhere and blow it thanking the Almighty we found out before the vows, and not after? best of luck. i’m taking my ring to a shop this next week and see how much it’s going to hurt.

good luck,
jason

I'm a big fan of craigslist. Ebay charges a commission on your sale but Craigslist is free you can deal locally and go see the actual product. In the case of jewelry I would think this would be a big plus.

That being said, I’m not sure how it would actually work at either site. As a buyer, I think I would want to have the piece independently appraised before before handing over the cash. I could see with diamond jewlery a scanario where a bait and switch could happen.

I’m actually married but thanks for the offer. It’s a really long and complex story. Regardless, we would prefer to have some cash rather than this stuff sitting in a box in the basement.
