Jet 6 or HED3?

Which wheel setup do you all prefer? I’ve been using the Jet 6 C2 for a few races, but I came into a pretty good deal on a pair of trispokes. I’m racing IMFL this weekend and trying to decide which ones to race on.

Sort of depends. The H3 is faster with a skinny tire (700x19 or 20). The jet wins out for everything else (comfort, handling…)

Depends on your fork a bit too. H3 does better with a wide bladed fork.

Assuming you run narrow tires, and have a decently compatible fork, the H3 is more aero at EVERY SINGLE yaw angle.

According to HED. Unless their margins are wildly different per wheel, I can’t imagine they would fluff up the stats on one of their own wheels compared to the other.

I do understand that their data is likely a wheel in isolation, and that the HED3 is more susceptible to interference with the frame/fork. However it isn’t as if their data shows those two wheels as even being that close, the H3 is quite a bit better.

I have a Felt B14, stock fork that came with the bike. I’m going to use Continental 4000S 700x23

If you’re going to use the 23mm tires, I’d go with the Jets, as they’re build for a 23mm tire.

They are both very close with the Jet 6 only being slightly, very slightly more condition specific.ie works better at lower yaw angles.

Hed admits that the aero data on their site is old as it shows the H3 beating the 6 across the board. I don’t think that is the case with the latest versions.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. Heck, in my last race, I decided to go with a H3 just so I wouldn’t have to mess with valve extenders should I flat. I was confident it was that close that simple convenience swayed my decision.

If it is calm…I would say the 6 would be very slightly faster.

Go with the HED3. They look oh so cool. Bomb proof as well. I love mine.

how much of a difference is there in the ride quality/comfort. I’ve heard the H3’s are very stiff.

As for style/looks, the H3’s win hands down.

HED 3’s are not bombproof. Not trueable.

While I am running a Jet disc rear and a H3 front, I would never consider switching from a Jet 6. I would definitely consider a rear disc.
With a Jet 6 set and a disc I would feel covered perfectly for just about any condition.

Have you had a need to true one?

so far the argument for the hed3 is a cool factor, id rather be fast than cool looking

with the hed3 clincher, there is only 1 tire in production that is aero enough and has low rolling resistance: conti supersonic with black chili 700x20.

the hed3 is more susceptible to cross winds than the jet 6. a better comparison would be the jet 9 to the hed 3. the german test compares the jet 9 vs the hed3 deep with a 23mm tire (hed 3 deep should be better than the hed 3 with a 23mm tire)

theres absolutely no reason id consider a hed 3 over the current spoked wheel options.

I love my H3 front and haven’t experienced the reported problems such as twitchiness with crosswinds and “stiff or uncomfortable”.
If i place my bike on a repair stand, and spin the front H3 lightly, it will continues to spin for over 5 minutes. Comparitively, if I put my Jet 6 on, and spin it with the same force, it will spin for about 40 seconds.
I would go with the H3. You can leave them on permanently and not worry about ruining the wheel, and can get accustomed to them in all conditions.
If you go with the Jets, be prepared to embrace the battle with compliance with your brakes/frame. You will likely have to remove spacers, shave brake pads, buy thinner brake pads, etc, and then maybe they will fit, with a mm or maybe 2 to spare. The wheel may rub the brake if it gets a mm out of true and if you get out of the saddle and the rim flexes. Wheel manufacturers have gotten ahead of bike and brake manufacturers, and there are many instances where the wide rims will not fit with your bike. These hassles are avoided with the 19mm H3.

zipps…but if you went hed…jets
