Dangit … I meant to post something like that the other day in the religion thread.
Jesus would be the ultimate triathlete. Who else could do the Ironman swim in 12 minutes?
Religion and sports? Sorry, I just don’t get the connection.

Funny , Now lets make fun of gays, women, muslems, race etc.
Seems there is alot of christian bashing going on.

Thank you. I was going to post something like that yesterday, but I was so ticked off that I wanted time to cool off a little.
I really like this forum, and despite the wide diversity of opinions/beliefs we have, I consider us a community, a family. That’s why it saddens/angers/disappoints me when some people resort to name-calling and ridicule. All Stan did was post a note about jerseys that some people on the forum might be interested in. But rather than ignore the post if it didn’t pertain to you, some of you stooped to fifth-grade bully tactics and mocked him for no apparent reason other than you hate Christians and Christianity. Didn’t your mothers ever teach you “If you can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything at all”?
It’s one thing if you want to honestly debate the value of religion, but ridiculing someone’s faith is pathetic.
(But you know what? Jesus still loves you.)
I don’t think it’s Christian bashing as much as it is Christian teasing.
I’m a Christian and the placing of a Jesus statue in every recreational sporting situation to turn a profit is stupid.
The comment about Jesus’s hand on the boys butt is just retarded and makes me wonder how that person’s mind operates. Is child molestation that much on their mind that it’s the first thing that comes to mind? Weird. It’s HID, so I’m assuming he was just trying to be peculiarly funny.
I love the picture of Jesus running in the swimming lane. It’s awesome. It’s my new wallpaper for my PC. I have a portrait at home in my office of Jesus walking toward the prophets on the boat in stormy waters. One of them is humorously glorifying the other is realitically glorifying.
As opposed to gay bashing, women bashing, Jewish bashing, etc? Those would be ok as well then? If someone were to have designed a jersey in support of gay people, how many of us would have the audacity to ridicule them and their post?
Just because Christians may have a stronger population in the world doesn’t make bashing them any better than bashing a minority. shrug
I don’t get it. How is this christian bashing? Did a bunch of stuff get taken off this thread. You have to admit - no matter what your religious beliefs those jesus sports statues are kind of hockey looking. The jesus in the swim race thing - I agree it is unconventional - but isn’t it just a spoof on how he had the power to rule us all but chose to help instead?
I generally stay off topics such as this but couldn’t help myself when I saw that picture. It was a cheap stab and out of character and that’s why it is gone and I once again go back to stay off topics like this.
I do and have on this forum pointed out all the ways society craps all over Christians … turning Christmas into Santa Claus Day, turning Easter into a chocolate bunny day, etc. It is not right and I speak out about it.
But, let’s look at what was done at this forum. Someone made a post titled “For the Christian Athletes”, and then in sarcasm silliness people started posting “For Non-Christian Athletes”, then Musslim, then Jewish, etc. I don’t think anyone made any derogitory comments regarding Racing 4 Christ or the jersey. If they would have I (and assume others) would have called them on it.
I don’t think anyone ridiculed the jersey or the racing 4 christ organization. They made sarcastic silly posts to make the other groups feel “included” or at least that’s what the joke was. It happens to every subject. Slowtwitch is silly in that way.
I made a comment that the Jesus “butt-grabber” remark was out of line (on more than one front), even if was attmepting to be funny. I also find the marketing and selling of Jesus to be offensive, even though it was from a “Christian” website.
If there are anti-Christian comments (that doesn’t include anti-religion comments) here on the board, please point them out to me. I want to keep inventory.
They weren’t outright derogatory, but they’re still poking fun and at someone elses (or some other group’s) expense. It just urks me that people seem to think it’s ok to make fun of the majority, but then you make that same joke about a minority group and everyone is up in arms.
Picking on Christians is funny… But picking on Jews isn’t. Or having support rallys for African Americans is good… but having the same support rallys for white folks is unspeakable (and before people get all up in arms, I’m neither white nor black :P).
I promised myself to stay away from religious threads… but just this once:
“…all the ways society craps all over Christians” WHAT???
YHGTBFKM!!!
You’re talking about western civilization as we know it for the past centuries ??? Man, who are the fundamentalists after all…
It just urks me that people seem to think it’s ok to make fun of the majority, but then you make that same joke about a minority group and everyone is up in arms.
It’s the same way in politics. white Christians are not be to be heard, but we need to have a parade (figuratively) for the Chinese-Pureto Rican kid with two dads. It’s okay for Reverend Jesse Jackson to be religious and political, but not for Bush. It’s funny how many Prsidents were so openly Christian not more than 50 years ago, and how now that is a “bad” thing.
I know how it goes. As a white Christian with a college education, I realise I’m just suppossed to pay my taxes, shuddup and say anything and everything people do or want to do is okay by me. I don’t agree with that (obviously)
In enough cases, Christians seem to be speaking out against behavior they don’t agre with, but behavior that not in violation of their rights. So, non-Christians get tired of hearing it, so we get teased. Chrisitians could do a better job of picking their battles (IMO).
There are always double-standards when dealing with a majority group … no matter what the majority group is. It’s okay to pick on the big kid, he doesn’t have feelings.
There are too many people with “thin skin” on this board. You guys need to lighten up! I dont think the original post was intended to be derogatory, maybe a little off color but arent we all that way at times? Wasnt there something that Jesus said about “ye without guilt cast the first stone?”
Seems like turning the 2 biggest days of the Christian year (Christmas and Easter) marketing and selling holidays is pretty much crapping on Christians. I certainly don’t see anyone having any anti-black holidays running during black history month (or any other group on their delegated day), etc. We should have “White Only” parades of Martin Luther King’s birthday. That’s an analogy for Santa Calus and Christmas.
Why do non-Christians celebrate even Christmas or Easter?
I see it as crapping on Christians and their sacred days. If you don’t, you don’t. I don’t see where any of that is worthy of a “YGTBFKM”. I think it’s pretty legit.
I apologize for responding to my own post, I just wanted to say I am not going to get into another day long debate about Christians and their holidays being dumped on. My opinions are there, you’re free to post yours. I don’t see this discussion going anywhere but downhill, and should likely be dropped before it gets even worse.
I certainly don’t mean to imply by my comments that I’m perfect. Yes, I’ve made off color jokes in the past (and present). It’s not something that I’m proud of and is something that I’m working on doing less of.
So while I do do it, I don’t advocate people doing it… myself included.
While we’re at it, I apoligize for implying that Christianity was the oppressive force that molded western civilization as we know it.
I can’t help myself. Christianity is also the reason why have FREEDOM. Our founding fathers felt that the freedom of choice was a divine right given to man by God that could never be taken away.
Like I said, I couldn’t help myself … if you’re gonna point out everything that Christians have done wrong, then give Christianity credit for “molding” this thing called freedom that we (Americans) brag about to every other country that will listen.
Always pointing back to Christian Opressors or the Spanish Inquisition is analogous to say that all Musslims are terrorists.
When we look at Christianity through history, has more good been done in the Name of Christ or more bad? Let’s be fair about this.
We could pick out the worst parts or worse individuals from any group of people and use it to dicredit the entire group.
