Button uses Brawn wind tunnel to test triathlon bike E-mail Aug.1 (GMM) With formula one in a summer slumber, Brawn’s Brackley wind tunnel was in action last week.
But the focus of the aerodynamic efforts was not Jenson Button’s Mercedes-powered car, but rather the Briton himself on the saddle of a bicycle.
Button is taking part in the London Triathlon this weekend, and he made use of the F1 wind tunnel to assess the aerodynamic efficiency of his Brawn-branded time-trial bike and attire.
He smilingly denied that his access to the facility gives him an unfair advantage.
“No way,” the 29-year-old said in an interview with the Telegraph. “People should use everything they can, with the new bike, new helmet and position I’ll shave off one and half minutes.”
Who else in other sports has raced triathlons (besides Jaja, Lance…)…
I can remember one NHL goalie racing some years back (forgot which team though…NJ Devils maybe? There was one NFL guy in Kona about 10yrs ago…who else?

It’s not as though he’s the only rider to have this opportunity - ex-F1 guy Simon Smart, more latterly the driving force behind Giant and Scott TT bikes, uses the Brawn (now Mercedes) wind tunnel for drag testing and if you’ve got the money you can join the queue (is there one?). No special connections to F1 teams required - it would have been odd for Jenson to go anywhere else as it’s probably the best and he can afford it.
