STer and pro triathlete Jeff “Rhymes with Diamonds” Symmonds ran 1:07:41 at the “First Half” in Vancouver yesterday. How about a little love for a crackin’ performance by Jeff. Course is legit (but fast and flat). And if you don’t know who Dylan Wykes is (who won) google him. Gives some perspective on how fast Jeff ran…
Wow, that’s fast for a tri guy (or anyone!).
I had the privilege of being lapped by Dylan Wykes at an indoor 5,000m race a couple of years ago - dude went by me fast!
.
congrats for getting on the podium. that is a fast time. simon whitfield ran a 1:06.23 last year
Symmonds can run for sure.
Definitely sick…
have any current or past triathletes gone faster in a standalone half?
Wow, almost 10% of the field under 90 minutes and almost 60% under 2 hours. It looks like Canadians actually train for these things unlike Americans.

Sure. Simon Whitfield - as noted above. And I think Kyle Jones did as well in the same race where Simon ran that time. But it’s still fast.
There are MANY pro triathletes that probably COULD run a half that fast, but whether they have or not is a different story. And, of course, there is the fact that I do not scour the internet to find out. I’m friend’s with Jeff, so I found out about this. I’m sure there are many triathletes who I am not friends with who are running fast times at local races as well.

It’s Vancouver in February. You want to be finished ASAP.

it also usually sells out very quickly, so only people really into running tend to do it (also only people really into running tend to train for a race in Vancouver in February
)
Simon Whitefield is good company to be in!

Team TBB & PBN Team member Scott Defilippis (8th place at IMF in 8:27) went 1:05:44 at Houston in '06:

As Jordan said though, I’m sure there are many others who could run <1:07 but simply haven’t b/c their focus isn’t on an open PR 1/2 marathon.
these dudes are fast.
its really ridiculous that you can get that good at running
while being that good at cycling and swimming at the same time.
Just running 30miles a week halts all progress in cycling for me.

Jack…keep in mind, when Scott ran that 1:05:xx he was focusing EXCLUSIVELY on running. With that being said, his workouts this Winter have been fantastic & in many instances close to the times he was putting up, back in '06. He’s not going to *race *an open 1/2 marathon this year, but I doubt he’d be that far off his PR if he did.

Off the top of my head here are a few i remember;
Olaf Sabachutes(sp?) went 1;04+ german
Glen Cook went 1;06+ England
Mark Allen 1;06+ US
Greg Welch 1;05+ Australia
Christian Bustos 1;05 or 06+ Chile
Greg Whitley 1;03 or so US
Paul Amey- 1;06+ NZ
Derek Kite 1;03 or 04 US
ANd i seem to recall that Miles Stewart, Simon Lessing, and a couple other guys had times in the 1;06 to 1;07 range, but not sure. If they didn’t run one, they surley would have been in that range…

Damn kids. New Bedford is a very competitive race. And while pretty fast… it does have that one nice hill at mile 12.
I’ve run it for 10 years in a row now. My fastest time on that course (1:15:48) got me 58th place.
Vvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooommm!
