Jealous indignation

Ok, so I’ve seen these folks around. Husband and wife wife with matching 2007 P3C’s and rear seat bottle rocket launchers.

I must admit jealousy, even though I subscibe to the school of thought that if you can afford a bike, you deserve the bike. But these people really push the boundry of good taste. I’ve never seen them do more than 15 miles at the local park and today I timed them on a 5 mile loop and they were barely averaging 17 mph on a relatively flat course. So I must ask, is this couple the slowest people in america to ever ride a P3c? Me thinks …yes. Now keep in mind, I’m no hotshot … but c’mon. That’s just ridunkulous

Maybe it was an easy/recovery ride today? Or a post race morning cool down rode. Or about 50 other reasonable possibilities.

Pay attention, the bikes will be on craigslist soon for .50 on the dollar.

If it helps you any I went on a 70 mile ride with my wife and a friend today. Him on a P3C, me on a K-Factor with aero wheels, and my wife on a 3 year old $700 specialized road bike. She rode us off her wheel. We negative splitted with a 2mph faster pace from the turnaround point. We drafted off her for a good 35 miles and barely hung on. She never turned her head around once to see how we were doing. I think I pissed her off earlier in the ride when I kept commenting on how she couldn’t beat me up any of the uphills. The final 3 miles of the ride was mainly hills and she picked the pace up again, my friend yelled at me for pissing her off while we tried to catch up.

The bike was my last bastion of hope for going faster than her, but even in that she has broken my spirit. I must now admit that my wife can kick my ass in all 3 parts of a triathlon.
