Javelin Grigio review:
This bike is hands-down the best carbon frame I have ever ridden!! Why? That is harder to explain. It has a combination of being comfortable and able to absorb road vibration along with being stiff and able to accelerate with any ‘race bike’. The road absorbing qualities do not equal the usual ‘dead’ feeling many carbon frames suffer from. There is also very little flex in the BB or front end… you push down, it GOES!!
Sizing with Javelins is unique. My regular size is a 55. Looking through some sizing charts, I ordered my Grigio in a 53. As the bike was being built up, it looked like it was going to be toooo small. This was possibly a combination of the sloping top-tube effect (bikes appear smaller when looking at just the frame) combined with buyers remorse (if I had ordered the wrong sized frame)!! In the end the bike fits perfect. However, if considering a Javelin, pay attention to the sizing. With the Grigio I’m a 53… with some other Javelins I’m a 57.
Like I said earlier, this is far-n-away the best carbon bike I have owned. The only down side I can think of is cost. At close to $3K for frame/fork/post/head-set, it’s not cheap. I also don’t think it’s necessarily more expensive than other similar products. Carbon fiber is a unique material that can not easily be repaired. Therefore, this bike will not see any crit. action or any other racing where the chance of crashing is better than average.
I can’t say this enough… Javelin has produced one very nice carbon bike!!!
