There was a thread started earlier where Slowman locked it until further information was available. Jason Goldberg told all affected parties (8 people which I counted) that he would ship items, some dating back to April. He sent out FedEx tracking numbers as well.
I’m here to report that Jason sent me an empty box to make the tracking information appear valid.
I truly am regretful of ever dealing with this person, and post this as a warning to all Slowtwitchers. Please refrain from posting anything inflammatory - I don’t want this post pulled, but please post your experience if you are one of the affected people.
***Edited to show that Jason Goldberg has issued me a refund through PayPal. The status is currently “Pending” and according to Paypal they are waiting on his financial institution to come through with funds. I will update this if/when the funds clear.
***Edited to show that Jason Goldberg used an “eCheck” to issue my Paypal refund, which was declined by his bank. Still hoping Jason steps up and resolves this.
***Edited to show that I am now (as of 8/1/2009) waiting on PayPal. JG says all funds have been transferred in the bank, and PayPal should have access to them. PayPal said the process could take another couple of days. Will update when more info is available.
Wow, seriously at what point does this become criminal? I’d start compiling a printout of any emails that you have regarding this sale as well as documentation as to what was paid for what and when.
An empty box... That's insane. He'd be better off just saying he currently doesn't have the product and will send it when he can. Weird thing is, with all the info he's supplied on this site(he broke the news of Hed's 09 products) you'd think this wouldn't happen. I'd be pissed.
Well, now he seems to be commiting fraud in interstate commerce, so you a bunch of you could team up to get the feds involved. I also believe FedEx performs a very exact weight measurement of each package, and they save this data. It might be tough to get to, but I bet they have a record of the package data. As long as you still have the box, you can show that he actually sent an empty box. What did he claim to include in the box? If its sunglasses, then its going to be tough to prove the box was empty. If it was suppposed to be a wheelset, then that is likely a lot easier. I hope this guy ends up in jail.
I have dealt with Jason in the past and everything was sent on time and exactly as promised with it being a great deal. I am however sorry to hear about the other dealings that have not gone well. However, unless you know the extent of what is going on in Jason’s life at this time, I would not be wishing harm or jail upon anyone that has all the changes that Jason is going through at this time. I know it is hard at this time if you are one of the affected persons but please keep it as civil as possible as things normally have a way or working themselves out. Keeping my fingers crossed that Jason does the right thing in a little bit quicker fashion.
Jason, no matter how far you travel down the wrong road, you can always turn around and get back onto the right road. This goes for the others that are sending him bad vibes at this time.
Things might be truly dire, or actually a true error. I have made the error before when I sent bunches of things at once (before the holidays) that I put 2 things in the same box and nothing in another.
I doubt that having a baby is this bad. However, unless you know the extent of what is going on in Jason’s life at this time, I would not be wishing harm or jail upon anyone that has all the changes that Jason is going through at this time.
was this the pkg you posted the tracking number of last week? i notice it is only 1 lb but it seems to b hung up at the depot for the past few days. Was it actually delivered? i assume whatever you were to receive shouldve weighed more than 1lb. best of luck with this mess
OK folks, here is what happened, and hopefully this will highlight the deceptive nature of this guy. The other people who have contacted me also mirror my experience in many ways.
Jason sent the package from NY to NC where I live. He entered in 10lbs for the package weight. My package should have been at least 15 pounds. When I asked him about it, he said he always entered in 10 pounds because FedEx always bills him for the actual weight later. So, over the weekend when the package went through the Nashville FedEx hub it was actually weighed, at 1 pound.
I confronted Jason about this, and he said that he realized why I wouldn’t trust him, and that he would refund my money in full. He basically said that the wheels were not in the package, and he also offered to send me lots of free stuff. Not happening. I asked for a refund immediately.
I e-mailed him directly today and asked him since the wheels or free stuff he offered weren’t in the package, what was really in the package? I asked him to be truthful and straight up with me. He said the HED3 wheels were actually in the package.
I called FedEx to check out the package, and they later called me back. The package was a FedEx envelope with what appears to be a T-Shirt inside. Jason had also contacted FedEx (after me) and had tried to have the package reversed, and mailed back to himself. FedEx fraud department is investigating this package when it goes back through Nashville. The only reason he mailed anything to me was because I called him out on this forum.
I also echo what BMAN said above, and truly hope that Jason turns around and starts heading the right way. I also sincerely hope that his wife and new baby aren’t affected by the result of all of this. Jason has said he’d refund my money, and I have a PayPal dispute open. I hope all of you that have open transactions with him get compensated in the end.
Have you contacted Triathlete Magazine/Competitor Group? Last time I saw an issue he was a writer/reviewer for them. Something like this could reflect very poorly on them.
We are aware of this, and have other technical writers working with us. There were some events prior to this involving Goldberg that left me unimpressed and discussing his role with the magazine, which I will not go into detail on. But to this point we reserve judgment and as stated, already have other excellent writers working with us.

How is this relevant? It’s his job to worry about his family, and my job to worry about mine. Right now, mine is out a big chunk of money because he has failed to uphold his end of the bargain. If that failure ends up being criminal, then any jail time or punishment is in order, regardless of personal issues.
