January Swim Challenge! (four days late...sorry)

Hello, my beautiful Slowtwitch fishies!

A couple people asked in December if there would be a January challenge - I said yes and then have been so busy I forgot to start one! Anyway, here it is, welcome to the virtual swim team. You know the rules, make a goal and then enter your yards/metres here:

and you can post workouts and stuff on this thread if you feel like it.

EDIT - the spreadsheet is a work in progress… feel free to help construct it

If you haven’t done a swim challenge before, the ST virtual fishbowl is an awesome place to be!!!

happy swimming
love,
tc

I don’t do points predictions, but I **did **go swimming last night…

Dearest Khai,
Swimming doesn’t have a point system like Dev Challenges. You can set any goal you want… like “swim masters 4 times a week” or a goal yardage for the month or an “event” that you time trial at the end of the month.
Or, because Fishtwtich is pretty accepting, you don’t have to set a goal I guess…

How’d your swim go?

love,
tc

oops I forgot to set a goal for me. I’ll say 100,000 yds again becuase it is swim season!!! and a time goal of a 1650 that is 19:48 (I am fixated on this number because it’s sub-6 min 500 pace, times three and add 150). I’ll get one chance at a meet on the 13th.

I’m at 8,200 scy for the month so far (2 swims).

Thanks darlin’. I had a good swim, which isn’t to say that I had a good workout. As far as swim workouts go it was actually pretty lame - but my goal for last night’s session was not to swim x meters or y minutes; rather, it was to reintroduce myself to the medium that is water, and to regain some of my feel for said water. This I was able to accomplish, and I left the pool pleased with the way I was catching and holding water.

I am certain that my first Masters workout on Tuesday morning will kick my ass, but at least I’ll be somewhat reacquainted with swimming by that time. Frankly, I’m more worried about Thursday’s session as the jackass who set my schedule has me doing an early swim on Tuesday, an evening ski on Wed and then an early swim on Thursday - right up until March.

Given that there are 8 Masters practices scheduled for January, I’ll set a stretch goal for 12 times in the water for the month.

The real goal, is to be in good enough shape to do the Bay Challenge come July. That’s 10k, point to point, in the Pacific Ocean.

Thanks for being so excited about my swimming.

it’s only point to point if you’re good at sighting!

Seriously, cool.

Sorry to be the new guy getting into the challenges…but I can’t seem to open the spreadsheet you created. All I see if the 100 runs sheet.

I’d love to get involved because I did my biggest swim month since starting to keep track last month but I’m going to be in freaking bofunk Maine with no access to a pool. I feel like I’m going to lose everything I gained last month but it’s only 4 weeks starting Sunday and then done. I’ll be in Maine most of Feb too but then I’ll have access to multiple pools between my school and the Ys. So I’ll check back again next month. Unless you know of any pools I don’t over by Rumford/Mexico/Sunday River?

TC, is it just a matter of adding a New Sheet which is a copy of the Dec Sheet to the Nov google Spreadsheet?

okay, I figured out how to make a copy of it… and I deleted all past data… but I’ve messed up the cells that do the math, somehow.

Hmmm… yeah you kind of are going to the middle of nowhere  just kidding, I have a friend who lives aroud there. I hear the skiing’s pretty good too.

The closest I can think of would be the U Maine at Farmington pool but that looks like it’d be a bit of a drive. Let me ask around though, I’ll try and find out if there’s anything closer.

I spy some new fish, yay!!!

4500 yds this morning and I think I tweaked my shoulder again (damn it.)

workout -

4 x 400 :30 rest w/u
1600 last 400 fast
10 x 50 dr/sw on :50

8 x 25 build on :30
100 easy
4 x 50 on 1:00 #1 and #3 fast (well they were supposed to be fast… 35s)
2 x 150 on 2:15 c/d

I’m in for 55,000 meters and 5 days a week.

A little off topic, but what conference do your school swim in? Div 2? My sons school (Adelphi) is switching to the NE-10 but I think that may still be a little out of your area.
J

I’m at U Maine at Orono - D1 team, their conference meet is America East. I’m not on a college team though, I just swim cuz I’m in love with it.

My boyfriend is the assistant coach for a D3 team (that is better than my school’s D1 team…) I forget what conference they’re in.

Yeah, I thought you were a little too east for them. Does your boyfriend want to move to a D2 school? Coaching seems to be a bit of an issue there.
thanks
j

Hello TC.

The running is going well so I’ll jump into this as well. However I’m more of a mollusk than a fish. Starting tomorrow, it’s 3 days a week stuck to the side of the pool. Well, I’ll move occasionally.

You need a swim coach to yell “GET OFF THE WALL!” at you

Seriously, welcome.

I don’t know what he’s going to want to do next year. His degree is in education - he worked for two years in North of Nowhere, Maine, teaching middle school history. He didn’t like living North of Nowhere so he moved back to the center of the state… the Colby coaching spot coveniently opened up and he LOVES it, loves coaching, loves being able to swim in the middle of the day between their practices… (three months and I still haven’t gotten to swim in that precious Colby pool though, he PROMISED I could come this week because I’m home on break). Anyway, I keep asking if he’ll want to teach next year, or stay swim coaching. He’s not sure but I think he’d like to stay at Colby, or get a coaching job somewhere else. He adores it. He is coming back tonight from their training trip to Puerto Rico - they had a lot of fun - and I can’t wait to go pick him up… this is all I care about today, that he’s coming home…

oops I’m obsessing again.

Could you add me too? I 'm in for 22,500 yards. I will up it 2,500 a month for as long as I can. Thanks for setting this up
