This jerk, who has probably been told all his life how great he is, won’t just go away. And I fear he’s going to get drafted by some team that believes they “need” him so we can all follow his exploits until he ends up in jail, dead or just a footnote in sports history. And his coach is an idiot too so together they are a great match:
Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said earlier on Wednesday’s ACC teleconference that the school was considering punishment for Winston after a report that he jumped on a table at the student union and shouted the vulgarity.
“It was not a good decision,” Fisher said. “You can’t make certain statements that are derogatory or inflammatory to any person, race or gender. You have to understand that.”
“You have to be very intelligent about what you say, (because) it matters.”
Well duh…
“Florida State is suspending quarterback Jameis Winston for the first half of its game Saturday vs. No. 24 Clemson in the wake of an obscene phrase he yelled in a public space Tuesday.”
He is slowly making himself undraftable–except we all know that some team will draft him in spite of his unbelievable character flaws–because of his unbelievable athletic skills.
If there ever was a guy who just doesn’t “get it,” it has to be Jameis Winston.
It is hard to believe that someone can be this stupid. Even someone who has been coddled and hand-held his entire life. He is a special kind of a-hole. Spectacular a-hole in fact. I would never let my daughter in the same room with him and neither would most of you (I hope).
He’s had numerous potential wake up calls and continues to fail. The NFL would be wise to insert some type of character qualification to even be draft eligible. It’s unfortunate that there needs to be incentive to keep your nose clean, but clearly that is the case.
What do you think the appropriate suspension is for a 20 year-old who clowns around in front of his friends by repeating a vulgar meme?
I get the fact that this was stupid. However, it’s not like this incident involved any kind of criminal behavior.
He has narrowly escaped being tried for rape. If he weren’t the starting quarterback of the hometown team he would likely have been arrested and tried for this.
He shoplifted from a local store after winning his Heisman (how stupid do you need to be?).
He now is shouting vulgarities about bleeping a woman in her bleep while standing on a table in the student union.
This is much more than an immature kid making mistakes. This is a pattern of behavior, criminal or not, that should be concerning to everyone around him.

Dude, he represents the university and is “paid” by the university. Particularly in his case the university is paying his insurance premiums on a multi million dollar policy to protect his future earnings. He was investigated for rape, he was then arrested for theft and now this. How many wake up calls does he need?

Everyone can see the train wreck coming. Let’s forget the rape, er sexual assault. And the incident at Burger King and the theft of the seafood. The guy has a pattern of stupidity. As his coach you have spent hundreds of hours with him. Talking to him. Trying to get through to him. I’m sure Winston says all the right things but as his coach you sit him down for at least a game and hope he finally gets it. If something happens again he’s gone from the team. I realize that will never happen because of the $$$$$$$$$. But if I was his coach he’s on the bench Saturday.

It’s disappointing to me. When I first saw him in interviews he seemed like a very nice and intelligent guy. Since then he just keeps doing stupid and criminal stuff over and over.
And it all keeps pointing back to an immense sense of entitlement to do whatever he wants. Yelling stupid stuff isn’t heinous, shoplifting like you own the place isn’t the absolute worst, multiple accusations of sexual assault are pretty damn bad, and taken altogether it just looks like a disaster waiting to happen.
Let’s forget the rape, er sexual assault. And the incident at Burger King and the theft of the seafood.
But isn’t that what we are supposed to do? If this were a court of law none of the other stuff would be admissible as evidence. IF he stole again, then the prior would be considered.
My point is that most certainly if the criminal behavior continues he should be punished accordingly. I would also agree that other poor behavior is often associated with criminal behavior. However if we look at this incident as a singular separate issue, which we should, it’s really a kid repeating what he saw somewhere else to try and get a few laughs. Inappropriate, sure, but it is college. Hardly something shocking to anyone there I’m sure. In fact humorous to most there according to the tweets.
As far as “Punishment”, the college should do whatever they think they should. It’s not a criminal offense it a violation of campus vulgarity rules at best and a PR nightmare.
When one considers what he actually said it’s probably not his best PR move while he is trying to shed the suspicion of raping a young woman.
Great point and with what’s going on within the NFL today you’d think someone would reign him in…anyone. But maybe he’s not controllable. All that’s left is for him to do is issue the usual apology and assure us he’s learned from his mistakes.

At some point I have to believe one of those 340 pound offensive lineman is going to pull Jameis into a meeting room for a very explicit conversation on how the rest of the season will be conducted.

You mean like Johnny Football? ;-p
Exactly like Johnny Football… Only maybe worse. Manziel is a jackass. Winston may have some sort of personality disorder but probably can play at the pro level.

Johnny Football didn’t have anywhere near this level of baggage.

This kid is a special kind of stupid. Exactly what I was getting at in the Adrian Peterson thread, by the time they get to the NFL, the sense of invincibility and entitlement is so bad that there isn’t really anything that can be done. As the celebrity of big ol’ Heueytown, Alabama, it is really hard to believe that he didn’t pull similar stuff all through high school without repercussions as well.
The only reason he is sitting is because of the possibility of bad PR due to all the nonsense in the NFL right now.
This is much more than an immature kid making mistakes. This is a pattern of behavior, criminal or not, that should be concerning to everyone around him.
Very true, but, I am getting a bit tired of hearing the “boys will be boys” excuse (not saying you are excusing the behavior, but, others are).
I never did anything even remotely close to anything he has done when I was in college. I highly, highly doubt you ever did any of this crap either.
Neither did I. He’s on really really stupid mistake #4 (at least), in the last year, knowing full well that he is under a huge microscope as the face of an entire university. In a vacuum, yeah this isn’t that big of a deal (until some female student files for sexual harassment because it was done in the middle of campus in mixed company), but he has exhibited a really consistent pattern of making very poor decisions. The takeaway from this is that he has proven that he simply doesn’t have the ability to learn from his past mistakes; how many more stupid little antics does he have to pull before he realizes his actions have consequences?
