Jacob Kiplimo 56:42 half-marathon “world record” NOT RATIFIED by WA for…drafting

With all the draft distance talk (12m vs 20m) in Ironman branded events recently, I thought this was interesting, especially because we do not typically hear about drafting in running the same way we hear it discussed in the context of cycling/triathlon.

World athletics specifically cited that Kiplimo was “too close” to the lead pace car at the Barcelona Half Marathon which gave him an illegal advantage. He was about 10-15m away from the car. WA also cites that he received on-course coaching advice as well (another contentious issue within triathlon it seems)

I first saw this on IG from FloTrack, citing RW Spain, but it didn’t provide a link

No linky, no trusty - plus anything Runners World, anywhere, is often clickbait

Now there IS a link, but not translated, which is also fishy

Kiplimo’s profile on his World Athletics page says

Half Marathon
56:42 WR(p) NR

Date
16 FEB 2025

I’m guessing the (p) means “provisional” or something?

Anyway, as much is I believe it’s true, until I see something from World Athletics, themselves, I wouldn’t share it

YMMV
