Jack Kelly The Triathlon Hour

My thoughts… If they keep stacking, two possibilities. They break, or when they eventually stop they absorb.

The former is more likely than the latter. So they break, stop/reduce training while recovering and surprise, come back stronger off of that injury or sickness.

Big watts and paces in Jack’s Aussie race wins (better than mine as a pro), and unknown how they would have translated to international pro results. PTO stats are affected by bike budget, drafting tactics and actually having the money and injury resistance to turn up.

Legs of a strong pro.

No dissonance here. Listen to the pod!

Classic stuff right here.

@JackKelly-TTH

One of your best interviews.

I’ll put her comments on aero testing aside :joy:

She (Alanis) was great

She has a super infectious personality that made it a good pod. You can really feel how badly she wants to train hard and loves doing so and for some reason it really makes you drawn to her (or at least it did for me). Plus she also just answered literally whatever I asked without hesitation which always helps!

I commented on Bob’s YouTube channel that she gives off the happy vibes of Michelle Vesterby .

She definitely doesn’t give off “poor abused athlete” as some others tried to convey

I chuckled when she said “there is nothing else to do but swim, bike, run, eat and sleep a few minutes before saying “I am here with my boyfriend”.

good interview !

I have one question, non of your listener had the question whether she was/is in an anti doping program ?

did you by any chance ask how good she was as a swimmer, its rather hard to find swim times for her. I think the best I found was a 4.59 for 400 free ?

These questions would have made the interview more valueable, I think:

“How does the anti-doping testing process work for you when you are training in China for several months?”

“During your last stay in China, how many times were you tested out-of-competition?”

“Who exactly conducted these tests? Were they carried out by Swiss Sport Integrity, the International Testing Agency (ITA/World Triathlon), or did they delegate the testing to the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA)?”

“How do the logistics of the Whereabouts system (ADAMS) work for you in China, especially when training in more remote areas? Have you ever experienced any issues with testers finding your training locations there?”

Other than Chartier, when has the TTH asked this of anyone? Especially four different ways…considering the tone of the show, you might as well suggest the obvious question

Exactly! Who the hell asks questions like that out of the blue, without a positive test? It is clear that many people here believe Sutton’s entire group is suspect, cause you know, China is evil.

That’s a very hostile set of questions if you ask all of themhow does testing work in China; are you aware of people around you peeing in cups? would’ve been enough.

There is also a segue to this subject that wouldn’t have made it awkward to ask the question. Alanis said they had been training close to a city of 10 million in the south of China (which is more urban and more densely populated - probably not a remote location, unlike some had been speculating).

I wouldn’t ask questions like that out of the blue. Also, CHINADA has a record of controversy over the alleged defending of Chinese doped-up swimmers, and Sutton is coaching their national triathlon team, and Alanis said she had been training with local short course athletes. Just sayin’ - not a matter of “evil China”, but a matter of “China’s resume”.

This is the issue I see with doping. If the standard is only a failed test, and everything else is just being a “hater”, we’ve lost any ability to have conversations about this with any intelligence. 100% your innocent until failed test, but there is also an understanding that with doping the athletes will always be ahead of the testers so if we can’t have any conversation on it from either side without it resorting into silly “haters” from either side; we all are more stupid from that type of response.

Valuable for whom? These podcasts are meant to open up the training of athletes to fans. It’s not our job to know how frequently they’re tested. Otherwise every athlete should be asked the same questions.

Those questions are being asked on the other TTH podcast

Australia’s swimmers also has a huge drug issue years ago. How many countries have had a history of drugs in sport. The USA is rife.

A friend of mine was the High Performane Mentor for the Chinese national program, should his event management company in Oz be suspect?Should Macca be suspect for working with him?

Why was Lionel never questioned over housing Chartier?

Alanis was tested in Roth but maybe Felix is “in on it” as well and has bribed the testing agency in Roth.

See how easy it is to make shit up with half truths.

Doesn’t all this just prove that things aren’t above reproach? Your suggesting Felix is in on it with her in comp test, and the common sense/convential wisdom of race day testing is that it’s the least effective form of testing, so suggesting Felix is “in on it” would be stupid/foolish. Questioning the out of competition process isn’t in the same half truths, imo.

Are you a complete idiot? Can’t you see sarcasm when you read it.

The point has gone completely over your head Nick in your zeal to prove everyone is hating. Your trying to suggest that half truths are just all whacko pov’s, and in fact, if we can actually detail each half truth as you put it, most have sorta common sense answers. Therefore some half truths have way more validity than other half truths. IE- out of competition testing procedures and testing numbers vs race day testing.
