No, he was doing the dual life of a almost full-time corporate job and pro triathlete training 22+ hrs/wk. Now he’s just a pro triathlete. I think it’s the right decision for him, I don’t think he’ll regret it.
Yeah at his age it’s now or never and there’d always be that “what if” if he didn’t pull the trigger. He definitely has the swim bike combo, just needs to improve his 70.3 run pace 30 sec per mile without getting injured. He can always go back to the corporate world if this doesn’t pan out.
So does this news mean I should buy or short UPST? It’s been down 50% over the last year.
In either case, where can I buy stock in RIELE?
Thanks everyone! I am very excited and have been overwhelmed by all the positive support today. Literally one of the coolest days of my life seeing everyone support the decision. It’s crazy!
Let me know if anyone has any questions that I haven’t answered in YouTube happy to dive deeper with an AMA on slowtwitch here in this thread. Questions so far…
- UPST has been the most volatile stock ever and I definitely do not have any stock advice (although it is nice that stock is down bad as I am leaving cuz I am flushing a lot of unvested equity down the toilet lol)
- Where to buy stock in RIELE… not sure yet but I do like the idea of betting on athletes for a share of their unearned prize money lol, maybe there’s a very niche startup idea somewhere in there. For now you can follow me on insta, and sign up for Rythm Health at Rythm.health/riele25 LOL need to keep my sponsors

Short UPST. Not sure your Fed Nominee Kevin Warsh knows what he is doing yet and UPST is very dependent on rate cuts. Go long on RIELE… the real test is still ahead - hopefully we can expect a good run of things : )
Will you be moving to Tucson or Boulder in the near future?
What kind of spreadsheets were involved in this decision?
I see you are focused on all the marginal gains right down with the Sauna. You’ve given up your job to prioritize training and recovery. Can you talk about diet and nutrition side of training & recovery?
Are you aware of the ways alcohol impairs recovery and training adaptation?
”Levels of cortisol were increased, and levels testosterone and rates of muscle protein synthesis were decreased, which indicates that long term muscular adaptations could be impaired if alcohol consumption during recovery is consistent.” Checking your browser - reCAPTCHA
“Alcohol consumption during an aerobic exercise training period prevented training-induced increases in run to fatigue time and grip strength. Cessation of alcohol allowed for recovery of endurance performance within 2 wk. The worsened exercise performance after alcohol was unrelated to impairments in markers of mitochondrial health. Therefore, some adaptations to exercise training are impaired with alcohol use (endurance performance, muscle growth, and strength), while others remain mostly unaffected (mitochondrial health).” Effects of chronic alcohol intoxication on aerobic exercise-induced adaptations in female mice - PubMed
Yes I am aware of alcohol intake and have severely cut back drinking the last 6-12 months. I basically don’t drink anymore, just weddings and large celebrations. Maybe 3ish total drinks per month now. I signed with Athletic Brewing this year, I drink one almost every night with dinner. Great partner for me into this next phase. Announcing next week.
Thanks for being so open and answering our questions. Now for the most important question, are you keeping the Porsche? ![]()
You can do a glass of bourbon a couple times per week with that volume.
yes the Porsche definitely stays. I’ll sell it when I’m sick of it but right now I drive it to the pool every day and love it. I did sell one of my watches though lol. I decided watch collecting is a money pit and sticking to just a couple.
Breitling sponsorship incoming!
e-bike to the pool and save the wear and tear on the Porsche?
Lol was just about to say it’s been down ever since you started thinking about quitting. Great job on the announcement. As professional marketing campaign as it gets. Good luck to you and your wife on your new project.
Nice one, good choice.
can I ask why did you not make the step before to actually get in a proper pre race training phase? this was likely not a short term decision as in a way being a corporate guy with no time and doing podcasts was the worst use of time for a guy that did not want to go full time.
since you have a marketing background will you become an agent for other triathletes ?
Not sure I am following the question. Are you saying I am not training properly pre-race? I haven’t done a single week this year under 20 hours this year and my swim/bike/run numbers are all at an all time high. It’s very early in the season. Also I still am working until 3/20. Quick changes would lead to bad outcomes.
The podcast only takes 90 min per week and I’d say it is a great use of my time for someone who has been thinking about making the jump to full time.
If it’s a Tacyan you are more underwater on that then UPST shares.
No Taycan and not underwater, might be above water now! These things are “good investments” (or so I told my wife). Paid cash so it’s my backup emergency fund and can dump it off to someone on slowtwitch if I suck this year and all my sponsors drop me
I think they meant that they thought it would make more sense to make this change at the end of one season and before the next season starts rather than in season close to racing. That was my initial thought too. But it sounds like you’ve sort of been preparing for this all off-season by ramping up volume. And I’m sure there were many factors to balance where you could make the change or weren’t decided yet to have it happen at a specific time of the year.
Nice! I picked up this Cayenne GTS last year on BAT.
those questions are always hard, but as a coach that has been involved in the process of athletes to decide to work full, time part ,or quit work, or considering the pros and cons to go to train at nat training centre or save the money to stay at home. iam always interested in the thought process how to achieve the best overall outcome ( not that this exists) .
so my question was more if somebody would come to you in the same or similar position how would you advise them given on what you know so far ( and of course it will be rather interesting what you think in 1 year as well ) would you do everything exactly the same ? or like you did with your shoe testing, have you already seen some points you would do differently now ?
same with the right balance between increasing marketability vs 5x 20 min naps a week to increase recovery ,where is the right balance for an athlete that has aspiration to turn pro or full time ?
