Jack Kelly The Triathlon Hour

So what is biking skills. your power meter is just spitting out the output of torque on the pedals not the input of torque or where that force is coming form.

So a beginner can have effort of input of 300 watts and yield 200 watts which shows a poor amount of skill and a large amount of stress to the system. so to improve they have to learn how to place the force were it is not needed. As well as not fighting the opposing leg to create the power, which happens alot in cyclist.

Everyone is different on what they need to change.
One might be they lock out there right knee, having to fight harder on the other side to get the pedal going again, they tend to now pull over the top on the left and increase quad tension.
One might be they drop there heel at the top ( due to pulling over the top maybe) ( therefore they pushed the heel down but didn’t move the pedal) so the heel moved down but the pedal didn’t, going to hurt your calf and lose tension on the chain.
One could be they push there balls into the seat , pushing your balls into the seat will not increase power but does feel like you are trying harder. Which also may lead to ED.
If you push your balls into the seat you just took weight off the legs that make the pedals go down .

There are so many ways to see power gains and efforts in a matter of seconds to hours vs large volume spent making the exact same errors over and over and over.

I’d say TTH can be like a well balanced meal with some good meat, healthy serving of veggies…That is the interviews with top people.

The TTH can also be like a bag of chips. Sometimes that bag of chips hits the spot in terms of light hearted fun. But less bags of chips vs healthy meals please

New episode just dropped… Skipper interviewing Knibb

They didn’t cover why Ari DNF’d Lake Placid- is that someplace else in the social media universe?

Apparently Ari started having calf or achilles issues about halfway through the run and pulled the plug.

Insane collab. Well done @JackKelly-TTH!

I think Skipper could bring a bunch of excitement/colorful insight into race announcing one day. That was a cool “chat” between 2 pros.

Agree

The discussions between 2 coaches they did a while back was really good
This collab is even better. I like Joe, but I really liked Taylor. Face palmed at the “I have never been aero tested”, but that’s just me

He was on for a good chunk of time during 70.3 Swansea, and was good. Cast the ex-GTN bloke (Name forgotten) into deep shade, though both had done their home/prep work, unlike the normal (Aus) (male) suspects.
Example of someone who can and has walked the walk, recently, and then brings insight into talking the talk.

Yes I knew he had done some, but I’m talking like full time type of coverage once he’s finally retired (he sorta laughs at what he thought was triathlon pro retirement age a decade ago and now). He’s also got enough of a following/presence, it would seem like a natural transition.

I assume he’ll be able to do coaching as well, that sorta “junkyard” underdog style has likely a good spot in our sport.

any good? I don’t like the Junkyard dog podcasts as found them pretty boring.

Gotta say - thanks to a rec from @kajet himself - I’ve been enjoying the new triathlon mockery pod!

Definitely not boring. A little weird, in a way that I liked, and interesting. Of course it depends on your tolerance of the SkipperSelfChuckle to some extent  but he asks very very good questions.

You know it’s pretty funny because I thought of his self chuckle during the Knibb interview and it occurred to me that they are similar in that regard. He’s got the goofy chuckle and she has the giggly one. Taylor’s tends to make me smile every time. It’s great.

But the way you ”quoted” me… :joy:

I’d still be interested in the abrupt ending of Joe in the Triathlon Mockery podcast but oh well, up to them to say something about that or not.

But I think it’s a good change surprisingly, Joe is good at interviews because he’s genuinely interested and Max Stapley is awesome at Triathlon Mockery

I think this is the first time the real Taylor Knibb comes out in an interview/podcast. Including all of her quirkiness.
I’d absolutely love to be in her training group, shredding the session quitters. lol
