Ive seen atthletes w low iron or red blood counts but what about wbc

a person w occasional slightly low white blood counts and neatrophils…havent had a cold for 3 months but get 2-3 colds a year…2 24hr flus a year …maybe the immune system is depressed? any thoughts…not overtrained at all…iron is in good shape…

There are drugs for HIV now.

leukocytes/neutrophils (white blood cells) have little to do with viral infections.

Sounds like you need to wash your hands more and stay away from the elementary schools and/or stop moving/traveling.

make take a daily multi-vitamin or Vit C to boost the immune system.

What does your Dr. say?

rroof’s advice is a lot like what I give to my patients who are convinced that having a cold means they have SCID - stop licking doorknobs.

That is exactly why it is such a public health concern.

If gummi bears weren’t so cheap they’d stop making door knobs out of them.

i’m impressed that your patients know what SCID is.

I have slightly low leucocyte, below the reference value. I haven´t got plenty of colds though (knock on wood). Last time I missed training due to flu was like 1,5 year ago.

i take alot of c and echinecea

You need to clarify what you define as low neutrophil count. Technically you need to know what your absolute neutrophil count is
and if its <1000 you need to get it checked out. Otherwise a low wbc count in and of itself it meaningless, generally speaking.

Your “low” neutrophil count may be “normal” for you compared to another. My EOS count runs high, though I don’t have allergies or a parrasite…

Everyones values differ from one extent to another.

In addition, are you looking to see an immune response?

I live in Madison. It has to either be the most over-educated or “most likely to use the internet irresponsibly” town in the Midwest.

the range for neutrophils is 40.0-80.0…mine is 48% …its actually neutrophils, abs at 1.70(the range for that is 2.00-7.30) wbc by the way is 3.6(range should be 4-11)

Dude, I am very smiliar to you. I can not stay warm on a 90 degree day.

Vit, B-12, and Iron, have worked for me.

If you overtrain you can lower your immunity and it can increase the time it takes you to recover.

Up until 2 years ago I had continuous colds. And ‘touch wood’ haven’t had more that a little snivel once in the last 2 years. In the Winter where I live it seems everyone gets colds in the first few months of Winter, so in such cases you will be lucky to not catch it.

So what has changed:

  • was living a cold climate in a old damp wooden house all year round in 2005/06,

  • have moved away for the last 2 Winters to a warmer climate. Travelled around the world in 2007 through 12 countries and didn’t get more than a snivel for a few days. So I don’t buy ‘the stay at home advice’.

So if you live in a ‘crappy place’, get away for as much time as you can(especially the winter), and try and keep your stress levels down.

Not sure about your lower WBCs, but they are just reference ranges you are talking about, some people will naturally fall outside the refernce ranges a bit.

i take a lot of b vitamins and iron…actually my iron was 55(i think the range is 20-350) if i was overtrained i dont think my rhr would be 43 and my sleep so solid…my teeth or gums get sensitive sometimes though…i always associated overtrained w lo iron and lo red blood counts
.

I would eat more chocolate, fat french cheese, train twice as much volume, drink more beer and cheap red wine. I did so 8 years ago when I moved to a cheap and dirty student flat full of nasty fungi and bacteria. Before that I lived in the most healthy and clean environment and was seriously ill 2-3 times a year and I have seen the doctor about 5 times a year and was always full of medicins. After my life style change I still have to see my new doctor. I haven’t met him yet, so I did something right…
