Watching the final TT of this years tour day france, I noticed Ivan’s elbows far beyond his knees. His arms angled in quite radically. seems much different than lance, ulrich, and notable millar with the straight out arms. Would this theoretically help to deflect air around the body? I thought one was supposed to shield the knees? I am not claiming to be smarter than MIT and a wind tunnel, just wondering.
There was a thread a little while ago about Basso’s positioning.
Here are Gerard’s comments, which are the most insightful: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=233250#233250
thanks
i guess i missed that one
didn’t cover much of the frontal view though. his arms are really wide by the elbow
Well, if his hands slide forward his elbows would move inward. The elbow pads force them that way. This is why it is so important for him to keep his hands where we determined they should be.
Another interesting piece of info on his position, two days ago slowman and I were discussing coming up with a better standard of measuring effective seattube angle and in that proces I measured up Ivan’s P3 SL from the Tour. His effective seattube angle is 77.3 degrees, not bad for a roadie.
You could tell him that you will rip away his sponsorship and give it to Tibbs if he doesn’t put his hands in the right spot.
Unfortunately that’s a hollow threat since there is already a P3 on its way to Tibbs!
Tell Basso that you will give his stuff to bunnyman. Certainly THAT would be motivation enough!
