WOW - almost an exact repeat of yesterday’s race with a huge battle between Moffatt and Norden going head to head for the whole 10k, with 1&2 in the series taking 1&2 in the race. Then we had Haskins just falling off the pace in the last k to lose 3rd to a strong finishing Jenkins (a repeat of last year’s 1 / 2 finish in Vancouver).
Thanks for the link to your photos which are great. I was also there yesterday and found the race very exciting to watch. Now I’ve tried to take photos myself I can better appreciate what a great job you do! Had to fly back home today before the elite women’s race so look forard to seeing your shots of that.
Yes that is a great image. Obviously the Kiwi girls did a bit of work to bridge up to the first cycle group, but I will have to watch the TV coverage to see the whole race unfold. Andrea Hewitt is a very good allround athlete from what I saw a few years ago training in and around Christchurch and the rewards come to the best with a 3rd in the series.
What was teh payday for the top 5 in the series this year? well I will look it up somehow, but triathlon is starting to get bigger with better sponsors and prize purses.
The photo you mention was taken by Japenese photographer I have worked with this year. So the worlds pages were made with my photos and several of his. That image would have been taken with a nikon 300mm f2.8 fixed lens, a lens I have but usually leave at home… will take it to Kona next month though.
Ratfink I followed the links you put up on the other thread and see the ITU photos, but the womens link isn’t working. I have looked at those photos and they did a great job to show the event in the best light also.
Was this final ITU triathlon on TV in the USA?
I had a closer look at some of the photos and one thing I found interesting was how Brownlee’s foot seems at different angles as he runs(might have to try it as it is the fastest triathlon run style today???).
It was great tobe here and competing in the worlds and I wish it went on longer, so I will do another one someday and will try and be better prepared so I feel wearing my countries colours is better deserved.
There was a fair bit of drafting in the age group races however so am not sure I would be wanting to be vying for a top spot(as the final results can be dubiouswhich would be annoying).
Triathlon is exciting to watch, but it takes more to follow what is going on with all the athletes.
I do think it will get more TV time around the world as this new ITU series continues and hear(from the ITU media rep), that the live internet coverage will be continuing next year.
The payday’s have increased and I have now heard the paydays from yesterday. One interesting point was that they are now paying to place number 16 of this weekends elites races.
awesome pics of both fields, you are very good at what you do!!! Brownlee’s expression coming across the line is awesome, he truly is just a kid playing and it shows, if the race was in the US we would need to give him a bottle of sparkiling cider in place of champagne for the celebration?!??!?
Yes Brownlee is only 21 years old but he seems very mature for his age given his responses at the pre-race press conference.
Also wanted to add that the ITU live high definition videos can be watched at any stage once you are logged in. I don’t mind saying how great there media coverage is, but i will continue sourcing or taking photos that they don’t provide to give people an alternative on the internet. There are plenty of other great triathlon focused websites on the internet also, but most seem to have a different angle on things so far.
Maybe a few people will be getting home from the worlds soon so will be looking back at it all now. Most people were pretty interested in their own results/splits in the age group races. The fastest age grouper was 1hr 53mins or so which is pretty good if they were non-drafting on the bike.
What’s the deal with the shoes of the men though? Your picture of Docherty’s shoes looks like he cut off the strap closest to the ankle. In the one with Frodeno running it looks like he has a similar setup with the tongue folded down at least 1/2 way. Just seems like it would be hard to run in a shoe with the no straps around your midfoot. First time I’ve seen that setup before.
Frodeno has laces on his shoes. I just figured Docherty’s shoes had velcroe or so, but that was a guess. Actually looking closer it looks like he has cut off the top strap and put to black stitches in to hold the flap down. Anyway I remember seeing him pass by in the run and it wasn’t the usual Bevan… he looked to be doing it tough on the run.
Also here is a link to the elite under 23’s that a ‘ST’ member messaged me about :
