Just announced that the ITU World Championships will be held in Mexico for 2016 (City not announced at this point) and in Rotterdam, Netherlands for 2017. Thought for sure that 2017 would be held in Rio De Janeiro following the Olympic year.
No confirmation as of yet if Sprint will be draft legal as well in Mexico as announced to start for 2016.
Which Mexican city do you think will win out. Monterrey, Hautulco, Mexico City…
I’m surprised about 2017 too also quite honestly. I’m definitely in for the Netherlands, I don’t really have much of a desire to race the Mexico worlds though.
I was hoping for South Africa or Australia next year.
Mexico isn’t totally shocking, gifting that the sprint race is supposed to be draft legal and I believe that they were at least partially behind the push to make this happen. The Netherlands I’m totally surprised by, as I didn’t even think of it as a place that would be on the radar…
Mexico always has a huge age group team it seems. I’d be more interested in going there than the Netherlands (flat!)
flat? hahaha wind from all directions. And rain like seatle . They probably will do swim in lake, the river current is too strong like alcatraz… and the water is COLLLD
I find it curious to know why they have a city for 2017 but not for 2016? That seems strange to me…
At least they have the countries and dates out! They announced the Cross Tri WC site for 2015 (Sardinia) months after the US qualifying race this year (Xterra Richmond).
Is it confirmed that Mexico will be draft legal for the spring distance? If yes, does that mean that Milwaukee will not be a qualifier? If the race is in Xelha, that area is not bad.

Nope, not final with what Mexico will do. Milwaukee will NOT be a qualifier if Mexico has a DL sprint race.

I was just speaking to Triathlon Canada and they confirmed that yes indeed Mexico would be DL for Sprint. For Canada they will have confirmed regional qualifying races announced by March.
"Yes - the sprint triathlon world championships for 2016 will be draft
legal. We are currently developing all the technical, logistical and event
components to what this entails and will all be available on our website
as soon as possible.
We are currently working with your local provincial triathlon association
to develop the upcoming qualifying event season of 2015 for 2016.
As soon as events are confirmed, they will be immediately posted to our
online calendar."
Unfortunately I can’t give you a better timeline - as you can understand
this is an extensive process and could be as late as early March before
any events are confirmed.
