Has anybody ever worn an ITU uniform in an Ironman distance or 70.3 event? Any thoughts on comfort/breathing/cooling?

how do you define an ITU uniform?
Rappstar uses Kiwami one piece suits which are also used by many ITU athletes if that helps…
Shouldn’t be a problem - I’m not sure which make/model you’re using but the elements that make it ITU legal (zipper in back, logo size, etc) should by an issue. I can say this - 1) the Keaho race will be a no wetsuit swim and clearly an ITU suit is better in the water than a two piece and 2) it’s going to be hot, especially on the run so I could see you unzipping for sure.

I can unzip the back, but I assume when you say unzipping, you don’t mean rolling down to the waist, as that would not be legal, correct?
My wife wears one of her ITU uniforms for EVERY race, we’ve never got around to getting a specific 70.3 suit one logo’d up. Although B70 have a load sat here in NZ for her to pick up in June and get done.
The only issue we’ve found is one arse hole event organisor making her cover the ITU logo on the chest, claiming it to ‘clash’ with his event, and thus be a conflict!? That was an Aquathon (swim-run) too?!
But as far as your event goes, you’ll have no issues I’d of thought.
I’m assuming you are talking about the one with no chamois and the zipper in the back? I raced in one in Florida at the 70.3 a couple of weeks back. I had not raced in one for that distance either but was basically stuck racing in it and a little worried about two things: 1) not having a chamois for the bike distance and 2) being hot on the run with my uniform too close to my neck. I found not having a chamois to not be a problem but I was well vaselined up and for the run I didn’t find it too be that big of an issue as well. I certainly would have preferred to have been able to open it up in the front but did zip it down in the back during the run when I would have normally zipped in down in the front and it was okay.

Is that legal for Ironman swims?

Yea! I wore my Rocket Science Sport Rocket Racer (usually is front zip, but mine is ITU compliant w/ the back zip). I wore it for the Honu 70.3 last year and I loved it. Totally fine! It’s black and I kept it fully zipped the whole race without feeling overheated at all (I’m from CO and Honu is by far the hottest and longest race I’ve ever done).
Yeah, don’t roll it down - that would be illegal because a bare torso, as we all know would result in the Earth’s rotation would stopping, the seas boiling, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!

I’ve never seen it.
I do know someone locally. She went to worlds and medalled in sprint tri. she is a TERRIBLE swimmer, but is so proud (justifiably I guess) of her bronze medal, that she wears her National Team one piece bathing suit to swim squad. Funny as hell when she stands on the deck, waiting to swim, then tip toes to the slow lane and splashes around like a drowning victim! Thank god she runs like the wind to make up for it! Still, we all laugh at her.
ITU outfit at IM? Depends on what the uniform is and how appropriate for a particular IM race. I don’t recall ever seeing it done however.
The not having a zipper in the front issue is a big one for IM. Women’s suits are mostly made that way, but for the guys it’s nice unzipp and cool off on the run.
