ITU question

about 2:30ish in this video there is a crash on the bike. not suprising. but when they show all the ladies getting back onto their bikes, their shows are still clipped in the peddles? now i haven’t crashed on my road bike, but MANY times on the mountain bike. my shoes ALWAYS come out of the peddles? what am i missing here?

Depending on how you fall, your shoes might not come unclipped and if you’re laying on the road it can be hard to unclip in an awkward position. So perhaps they just undid their shoes and took their feet out instead of unclipping?

You’ll see one of the leaders taking her feet out of her shoes in preparation for T2. Some of those who crashed had probably already done the same.

Craig is right the crash was near T2 so many of the riders had taken their feet out of their shoes before the crash.

The crash at 2:24 in the video is a slow motion tip-over as they are going up a steep hill, so there is very little forward velocity (kinda like tipping over at a stop light). In these type of cases it’s not unusual to not unclip.

As PPs have noted, the second crash is near T2 and many women have their feet already out of their shoes.

makes sense… nothing weird then

thanks
